Farmer loses 6-4. Early Cuba takedown then two rolls for 6. Framer fought back but Cuba held good position and Farmer couldn't turn him.

I have been impressed with Bo in that, even though he has had a few losses recently, his attitude toward wrestling doesn't look like it has been affected. He still has a smile on his face out there and competes just as fiercely as ever. That is a sign of maturity to me.

Basset cruised to tech superiority in 1st. PR was not even close to doing anything

It was 11-0, and as you indicated, not much of a contest in the 65 Kg final, against Eligh Rivera (PR).

74kg Final - Mitchell Messenbrink vs. Orislandy Perdomo Brooks (CUB)

Period 1:
I couldn't see who came out with Messenbrink. Here we go! Messenbrink reaches for a low leg. Brooks locks around the head & then they break. Collar ties & hand fighting. Messenbrink quickly drops in on a leg & finishes the TD, 2-0, no turns. Tying up & hand-fighting. Messenbrink snaps & tries to come behind, but no luck. He shoots a low double & finishes another TD, 4-0, no turns. Back to neutral. Circling & tying up. Messenbrink attacks with an outside single & finishes another TD, 6-0. He has a tight gut, but can't get a turn. Back to neutral. Circling, Messenbrink stalks forward, then shoots. He gets another leg, then finishes the TD, 8-0. He has the legs laced & adds a turn for the first period Techfall!

Mitchell Messenbrink TECH Orislandy Perdomo Brooks 10-0 (1:52)

Mitchell Mesenbrink takes the Gold!!!

86kg Final - Rocco Welsh vs. Geannis Garzon Tamayo (CUB)

Period 1:
My feed is continually going in & out of focus, so I'll type what I can see. Rocco is out on the match & it's Nick Lee behind him. Here we go. Circling & hand fighting. Rocco tries a 2 on 1, but no luck. More circling & hand fighting, then Rocco switches to a collar tie. Tamayo tries a drag & come behind, but Rocco circles out of it. Back to hand fighting. Rocco tries another 2 on 1 & they break. Passivity warning on Rocco. Circling, head tapping & hand fighting, then brief collar ties before they break. Tamayo shoots, but Rocco fights him off. Rocco gets a passivity warning. He immediately drops in on a leg & takes Tamayo out, 1-0. Neutral restart. Circling, hand fighting & head tapping with fakes. Rocco gets a finger in the eye & we're stopped. Back to action. Circling with brief tie ups. Tamayo shoots from way out, but no luck. Rocco shoots, but nothing but air. Back to circling & hand fighting. Rocco drops in on a leg. Tamayo locks through the crotch & it's a stalemate & restart. Circling & hand fighting with brief tie ups again & that's how the period ends. 1-0 Rocco

Period 2:
Tamayo doesn't seem to like tying up much & is keeping his distance. Back to action. Circling & hand fighting. Tamayo presses forward. Rocco circles back to center. He reaches for a leg, but no luck. Tying up in the center. Tamayo reaches for a leg, but can't get there. Rocco shoots & gets a leg. Tamayo tries to counter & they go out of bounds, point Rocco, 2-0, 2:18-left & my feed freezes. Back at it. Tying up. Rocco has Tamayo near the edge & they work back to center. Tying up & pushing with some hand fighting, then they break. Rocco shoots, but can't get there, 1:16 left. Circling & head tapping. Tamayo shoots, Rocco locks around the chest & drives Tamayo out, but he was grounded, no scoring. Neutral restart. Circling & head tapping. Tamayo pushes forward & shoots. Rocco circles away & back to center. Tamayo shoots, but Rocco fights him off. Tamayo shoots again. Rocco counters. Tamayo re-counters & they go out of bounds, point Rocco, 3-0, maybe? I couldn't see clearly. Now we're stopped, for a review or something. Both wrestlers are fine & there's 21-seconds left in the period. Must be a challenge.

Back to action, no change in scoring. Tamayo presses forward, looking for an open. Rocco circles away, then gets hit in the face or mouth & we're stopped, 11-sec left. Back to action. Tamayo drives forward. Rocco circles away. Tamayo shoots, but time expires & Rocco hangs on for the win!

My feed was wasn't the greatest, so I missed some of the scoring.

Rocco Welsh DEC Geannis Garzon Tamayo 5-2

Rocco Welsh wins the Gold!

Rocco Welsh DEC Geannis Garzon Tamayo 2-0

Rocco Welsh wins the Gold!

It was a challenge, and it really took a long time before they reached a decision -- challenge rejected, and Rocco got another point.

The final score was 5-2.

As someone that does a lot of PBP, I would not have wanted to try to do that with the screen constantly going from crystal clear to totally out of focus (and the announcers speaking in Spanish).

I think it was a step out and fleeing in first period for 2-0 lead, then a takedown in 2nd for 4-0 lead.
Cuba got a step out to make it 4-1, and I assume the challenge was for fleeing which they lost to make it 5-1. The last point for Cuba I am not sure maybe for fleeing for 5-2 final

Welsh looks to be in summertime conditioning mode, which isn't surprising since it is summertime : ) Regarding McEnelly v. Welsh, in my opinion it would be a solid lean toward McEnelly at this point. Both are great defensively and are physical specimens, but McEnelly has shown himself, especially with his U23 performance, to be able to get to his opponents' legs on a consistent basis, which Welsh hasn't been able to do. I know freestyle performance doesn't always translate over to folk, but I think if Welsh is going to keep it close with McEnelly then he is going to have to improve on his feet.

With the blurry screen, it was a challenge to figure out what was happening. That said, I think it went as follows:

1st period: ref awarded 1, and the table gave the TD so it was 2-0.

2nd period: TD by Rocco made it 4-0. Then a push out by the Cuban, 4-1. That was challenged by the Cubans, they lost the challenge, so that gave Rocco a point, 5-1. (It was close to a TD, so I could see why they challenged.) The last point, awarded to the Cuban with @ 11 sec left, was hard to know for sure what it was for. It could have been for fleeing, or it could have been for Rocco arguing (he was indicating that he got banged in the face in the flurry). Whatever it was, the Cuban was awarded 1, so the final was 5-2.

Maybe .... but in first period, there is no way that was a takedown

That match was a challenge to follow! That was harder than covering the 2nd Taylor vs. Brooks match when I was totally hammered & my eyes were getting blurry, instead of the screen!

I think Welsh can keep the score close against most anyone, including McEnelly. But fully agree that for Welsh to have realistic shot at beating the likes of McEnelly, he'll have to improve on his feet and find more offense.

I wouldn't call him in "summertime conditioning mode." For the most part, he wasn't an offensive machine his freshman season. Excluding the Clarion Open and the Cleveland State Open, which he wrestled in before entering tOSU's lineup, most of his matches were pretty low scoring. He had two TFs, and five MDs all season (excluding those two Opens). He had a really nice run in NCAAs to end the season, but the scores were (in order):

- 4-2
- 4-1, SV-1
- 4-1, SV-1
- 4-1, SV-1
- 0-2 (in the final against CStar)

In the B1G Tournament, his scores were (in order):

- 1-4, SV-1 (against Edmond Ruth)
- 20-4, TF, @ 5:40
- 14-4
- 11-3
- 4-1, SV-1
- 4-2

He did show a good bit of offense last year as a redshirt, and was undefeated, but he was only in three Opens, and he was facing competition that was way, way below what he faced in his freshman year.
