One suggestion/piece of feedback for the Mods here (I hope this is the right place to do it). I don't think it is to a reader's benefit to be bombarded with social media links in every event thread. The occasional relevant post makes sense, but in this thread there has been a million posts of people reacting to the wins/other stuff. It clogs up the thread and makes it nigh unreadable at times.

I actually thought it benefitted those of us who are remote and not watching. I appreciated it. Now if SlipperyPete was doing pbp, I'd agree with you somewhat.

Great tournament by the U.S. wrestlers! I do wish there was more interest in freestyle among the general college wrestling fans. Our board had by far the most U17 posts, with 262 and counting. The Oklahoma State board did have a U17 thread, but it only had five posts. The Iowa board didn't even have a U17 thread : (
Makes sense. We have only been at this since 2011. They are burned out.

Man, If the USSR still existed they would dominate international wrestling like PSU does college.
Probably not. There's still only 10 weights, so it's not like you can add all those countries' totals to Russia. Russia might gain a few points, but the real winners would be Japan and India -- the next best teams' athletes would likely advance further in the tourney, and pick up more medals.

If the USSR still existed and its wrestlers were not allowed to train abroad, then you'd have a lot of potential medalists sitting on the bench. If they were allowed to self-export, then most Georgians, Armenians, Azeris, Uzbeks, etc., would disperse around Europe or wherever they could find sponsorships.

Which would be like today, where so many Frenchmen, Spaniards, Italians, Germans, and Bahrainis have names ending in "v" -- except on a much bigger scale.

There's a lot of truth in that. Some of Russia's wrestlers may be in Ukraine right now?
Not a chance. Russia/USSR has always prioritized having athletes serve as state propaganda.

I was reminded today of why we seeing so many really good Kids coming up thru the ranks these days. Our grandson had a tourny today in Hershey. The place was full of future wrestlers and it was a beautiful August day, August! And these kids are battling it out in the Farm Show building. This is why Pa is so dominate. I saw names like Ciasulli & Labriola. Sorry if i messed spelling up.

So, you are complaining ABOUT the mods TO the mods? This should go well.

Building upon LemonPie's earlier post, here's the world medal count so far for current and future Penn State wrestlers. Connor and Cole Mirasola, Rocco Welsh and Will Henckel will get the chance to join this list this summer. To have all this freestyle talent in one room is just incredible.

Mesenbrink: Three-time world age group medalist (U20 gold and silver and U23 bronze)
Luke Lilledahl: Four-time world age group medalist (2 gold and 2 silver)
Marcus Blaze: Two-time world age group medalist (1 gold and 1 bronze)
Masanosuke Ono: Two-time world medalist (1 Senior gold and one U20 gold)
Jayden James: U17 gold
PJ Duke: U20 bronze and 2025 U20, U23 and Senior World Team member
Tyler Kasak: U17 silver
Joseph Sealey: U17 gold
Josh Barr: U20 silver
Aaron Nagao: U23 5th

Definitely full court press for Sanchez. Fits perfectly into PSU and our NLWC to be an Olympic Champion.
It will be interesting to see his weight progression going forward. As an incoming Sophomore Flo has him listed at 113 lb., which matches up with his competing at U17 at 55kg. (112.2 lb.).

On another note, I was so happy to see him get that final TD in his gold medal match. He really stuck with that TD attempt and made some great adjustments off his opponent's TD defense. To lose 1-1 on criteria, like Kikiniou did earlier, would have been horrible. For matches that end 1-1 with only activity clock points scored, I would like to see UWW use the first score for criteria rather than the last score. This would reward and hopefully incentive more action in the first period. It would also hopefully encourage the officials to be more deliberative in choosing which wrestler to place on the clock first. Under the current rules it sometimes feels like that decision is a coin flip.

I think Mesenbrink has some medals as well?

Jarod Verkleeren won U17 Gold at 65. If I recall correctly, he just went takedown to lace in all his matches.

Brady Berge won U20 Bronze at 70

Mesenbrink won U20 Bronze and Gold and U23 Bronze

Say you are from the Lehigh Valley without saying you are from the Lehigh Valley.

All of these are also recent—but not current—PSU medalists: Beau won U20 Bronze (2021), Carter U23 Bronze (2022), Bo U23 Gold (2019), and AB with U23 Gold (2023), U20 Silver (2018), U17 Gold (2017).

Just rounding out our list, though it’s likely I’ve missed others.
