Love that Max doesn't shut it down. Keep wrestling up by 6 and still shooting with 15 seconds left.
So true. The same goes for Marcus. Leading 6-0, he was the one forcing the action, getting the subsequent TD and turn for the tech. He didn't even looked like he was breathing hard after the match. They both are in great condition. I see continued great things for both of them as their freestyle careers progress.

Really nice match by Leydecker against a well-credentialed 20-year-old opponent. I can see why @zzs006 was looking forward to seeing her compete today. Leydecker did a great job of controlling the ties, taking space and maintaining great positioning throughout the match. She was in complete control from start to finish, never putting herself in any precarious positions. So far, she has outscored her opponents in this tournament 30-0. Her Finals opponent from India is very tough. She is a two-time age-group world champion. Also, the great news for USA Wrestling is Leydecker will not turn 18 for another month. She has a bright future ahead of her.

Great interview. I love Cody's humility and cerebral approach to coaching. I appreciate him reaching out to Marcus' coaches to make sure he and the Penn State coaching staff didn't make any coaching changes that might inadvertently have been a stumbling block for Marcus prior to the tournament. Cody mentioned Marcus is an "incredibly smart competitor, technically, tactically. He knows his opponents. He knows what's going on out there." That is some praise there from Cody, especially for an incoming freshman. Considering Marcus' considerable skill set at this point, it is going to be a treat to watch him hone those skills and continue to grow as a wrestler and young man. We Penn State fans in particular and wrestling fans in general are blessed to be able to follow Marcus' career.

I enjoyed this interview of Coach Eggum. He seems like a good guy. He mentioned how Max doesn't have a lot of freestyle experience, and even in folkstyle he doesn't have as much experience as some other wrestlers because he also competed in football. If Max is currently this good, I can only imagine he will continue to jump levels in folk and free as he moves forward. That is a scary thought for his competition. Check out this video of Max warming up today prior to his gold medal match. He is impressive as an athlete and wrestler.

Great interview! I am continually impressed with these young wrestlers. Marcus comes across as an intelligent, articulate and respectful young man who has wisdom beyond his years. It is almost like Cael and the staff know exactly the type of person they want on the team! It doesn't hurt that Marcus is a phenomenally talented wrestler also  I love that he and Ono are roommates and Marcus considers him one of his best friends, even though they have not known each other very long. Marcus said he picks Ono's brain about wrestling every day and Ono "teaches him all his stuff". Marcus also mentioned how tough the Penn State room is and specifically mentioned Zain and Jordan Conaway. There are lots of nuggets in this interview!

I find Max very enjoyable to watch. He will be my favorite non PSU wrestler, at least this season.

The stuff about him and Ono is awesome. In one of his interviews he said his gut wrench that he has been turning everyone with is a gut that Ono taught him. Ono turned everyone at U20’s and seniors with it so to then teach it to Blaze and watch the success he had with it was really f’ing cool. Blaze had been decent in par tarre but this tournament he was out of this world. I can’t wait to see how good Marcus and Ono become once they are in the room battling and learning from each other everyday.

I can't imagine how beneficial it will be for Marcus, Luke, Aaron, Braeden and others to roll around with Ono at practice on a consistent basis. I still can't believe Ono is at Penn State. What a great benefit to have someone of his caliber in the program. Penn State fans joke about it, but it is absolutely true that the competition in the room every day is better than they would experience at most any tournament.

To beat Russia by 28 team points and Iran by 74 is just an incredible feat. Kudos to all of those in the wrestling community family, especially all the coaches at USA Wrestling, youth clubs and RTCs for providing the opportunities and training that have propelled U. S. freestyle wrestling to such great heights.
I think it was 100.
2 golds (2×25)
1 silver (20)
2 bronze (2×15)
That is 3rd place after those points are subtracted from the national team.
The PSU wrestling dynasty has happened at a time of the USA competing at the highest level internationally.

Not a coincidence.

Watching him beat Ferrari will be a beautiful thing. I’m really excited for 184 this year with Rocco, Max, and Ferrari. Does anyone know if Sinclair is going 184 or 197? He is right there with those guys as well
Only 1 Ferrari can win a national title this year and it isn't the smaller one.

I encourage folks to watch that J’den Cox interview someone posted here. He opened up by talking about how as a nation of wrestlers, the focus has been shifting to “having fun,” and spoke of how much he is learning from Cael and Casey (among others). A lot of gratitude talk too. Bit by bit, “Gable Tough” is molting its way off, and Cael Enthusiasm is emerging as the national standard. You love to see it.

To be Iowa right now must really suck. If they weren't so arrogant, I'd almost feel bad for them. Nah, F Iowa.

Sinclair is going 184. Missouri has both 3x NQ Hawks and NW transfer/2x NQ Bates at 197.

That's a really solid top 4, and all of them have 3+ years remaining.

Despite his judgement in coaching, Zach Ryder can also make some noise at the weight, haha. It is going to be some fun viewing.

This PS team has the fire power to wreck the record books. Hard to believe after last years performance. The cries for parity will get louder and louder.

Every time I see or hear the word ' louder ', it reminds me of George Carlin on stage. He'd say " is the louder family here? They just sit there and yell their name, louder, louder!"

In the interviews posted here yesterday, Cody, Eggum, and J’Den EACH spoke glowingly of the opportunity to learn from each other, and all the international coaches there…

… I can’t picture that feeling coming from several of our rival Big Ten “smoke from the ears” coaches!
