I was also 14 when that game happened. I really loved those early to mid 80's teams. Especially 83-86. 1984 is my favorite team of all time.I was 14 years old watching that game and about lost my mind.
Its only my second favorite UK dunk ever though. Senior Night 1981 vs LSU, Dirk through a lob to Sam Bowie from beyond half court that Big Sam threw down and Rupp about exploded. Awesome
The saddest I have ever been watching a game was 84 vs Georgetown. I really thought we were going to win it all, Bowie, Turpin, Skywalker, and in the 2nd half we just got completely locked down, couldn't hit a shot to save our livesI was also 14 when that game happened. 75-86 was a great stretch. Some great teams that were diefinitely capable of a NC and of course one winning it all. Many truly great players during that time.
3/33 in the second half. 9%. It hurt bad. I cried like a baby in my mother's kitchen. The saddest I have ever been watching a game was 84 vs Georgetown. I couldn't believe it. I just sat there in shock for an hour after the game. Part of it was great defense, part was watching our players wet themselves going up against Patrick Ewing and Michael Graham. We backed down that game and totally choked shooting the ball. Even a great team can get embarrassed3/33 in the second half. 9%. It hurt bad. I cried like a baby in my mother's kitchen.
Yep. Graham completed intimidated us. Ewing had 3 fouls in first half I think. We had all the pieces that year.I couldn't believe it. I just sat there in shock for an hour after the game. Loved Mel. Great guy and good friend.Greatest dunk of all time great feed by the big dipper (r.i.p.).
When we beat a great Illinois team the week before I was sure it was our yearYep. Graham completed intimidated us. Ewing had 3 fouls in first half I think. We had all the pieces that year.
Phi Slamma Jamma will be no moreWhen we beat a great Illinois team the week before I was sure it was our year
Houston losing to NC State was probably tge most shocked I have ever been at a game result and probably the best in game coaching job I have ever seen. Valvano was using timeouts along with TV timeouts to devide the game into ten 4 minute stretches. Masterful job. Houston was one of the most talented teams I have ever seenPhi Slamma Jamma will be no more
It’s Sky Samma Dippa in 84
No greater dunk has ever been dunked.
They just couldn't hit free throws.Houston losing to NC State was probably tge most shocked I have ever been at a game result and probably the best in game coaching job I have ever seen. That was probably the loudest moment ever in Rupp .I was 14 years old watching that game and about lost my mind.

1983 in the Regional Final in Knoxville. Pain remembers. One of the most disappointing losses ever was the loss to Louisville back in Dirk’s last year. I think it was 1981. It was before the 3 point shot and the shot clock. I was in high school. Kentucky had a big lead I regulation, and pissed it away. Lost in overtime
Yep. I had the year wrong. Really disappointing.1983 in the Regional Final in Knoxville. Pain remembers.
Very. I remember when the game ended I wish Master had just missed the shot to send it to OT.Yep. I had the year wrong. Really disappointing.
Yep it was hard. I don’t recall much about the middle TN game except that fans were not too happy. We didn’t have a reliable TV till Christmas of that year.I think in 1982 we lost in the first round to Middle Tennessee. And, of course, the 1984 second half meltdown against Georgetown. That one was hard to take.
It was tough. Lost to UAB in the second round the year before. Then came 83. 84 was OUR year or so we thought.Yep it was hard. I don’t recall much about the middle TN game except that fans were not too happy. We didn’t have a reliable TV till Christmas of that year.
