Some of it’s magic, some of it’s tragic, but I’ve had a good life all the way.

I’m not a huge Parrothead but his set at JazzFest after Katrina was like church. IIRC, he ended with “Biloxi” as the sun set over New Orleans.

Just damn.

One of my favorite lyrics of all time is from A Pirate Looks at 40. “Yes I am a pirate, 200 years too late. The cannons don’t thunder there’s nothing to plunder I’m an over 40 victim of fate. Arriving too late, arriving too late…..”

RIP Jimmy
It's 5 o'clock somewhere......

Margaritaville put him on the map, but the Pina Colada song made him a legend…

Some of you old parrot heads may remember this…he and coral reefer band play at MS State in 1979. They ate dinner in my fraternity, Lambda Chi Alpha. He was just starting to get big
Rowdy bunch

He played there during the early 80s once as well. I was at that one.

Never saw Jimmy live, but always liked his music. Truly a great and unique singer-songwriter.

I did see his old harmonica player, Fingers Taylor, with the House Rockers and Levon Lindsey at the Subway Lounge in Jackson in the 90's. Went next door and bought a buncha beer and had a great time. RIP Subway and Levon Lindsey.

RIP Jimmy...

Well 17. A few of his songs are in my regular rotation that I play and sing when jamming with friends. RIP JB. You made the world a better place.

I wish I was going to a Labor Day weekend show

I got my hush puppies on, I guess I never was meant for glitter rock-n-roll

Come Monday…

Friends and I were talking. Songs you Know By Heart had to be in our top 10 most listened to albums of all time for us.

As coincidence would have it, I grilled burgers last night; they were mighty tasty with that warm bun and huge hunk of meat!

This makes me very, very sad. “He Went to Paris” is one of the best songs ever recorded, IMO. Jimmy’s music was a regular in the rotation when on many a weekend my buddies and I would pile into my old Jeep and set a course from Hattiesburg to New Orleans, Biloxi, Mobile, PCB, etc. My wife is a west coast gal who had never really heard anything but Margaritaville (my least favorite Buffett song) but now, anytime she’s chopping vegetables, I hear her sing, “I like mine with lettuce and tomato…” It always makes me smile.

He also gave us what I consider to be some of the best lyrics ever in, “The sea’s in my veins, my tradition remains, I’m just glad I don’t live in a trailer.” I’d like to think he’s up there with Leach in Key West “North.”

Legendary singer/songwriter and Belmont, MS native Mac McAnally was the lead guitarist for the Coral Reefer band. Mac is one helluva songwriter. Not sure how many no. 1 hits he's written but there have been several.

Never knew that he was born in Pascagoula. Another 'Sip boy done good.
Yeah he actually graduated from USM. Was in classes with my sister. I’ve seen him many times and wanted to again. Damn just damn. This is the hard part of getting old, losing people that matter to you!

"I'm growing older but not up
My metabolic rate is pleasantly stuck
Let those winds of time blow over my head
I'd rather die while I'm livin' than live while I'm dead"

JB was one of the soundtracks of my life.

That kind of takes a little bit of the excitement out of today for me. Well... Just a little bit. I have an old friend who is a huge parenthood fan who I'm thinking of right now. I think it's kind of ironic that he passed away today and we playing in first game after our pirate passed away.
