Happy Valley Talent

About Happy Valley Talent

Happy Valley Talent is a joint effort by the Chamber of Business and Industry of Centre County (CBICC), The Happy Valley Adventure Bureau (HVAB), with support from business organizations throughout Centre County and the area, including Downtown Bellefonte Inc. (DBI); Bellefonte Intervalley Area Chamber of Commerce (BIACC); Moshannon Valley Economic Development Partnership (MVEDP); East Penns Valley Community and Business Association (EPVCBA); Blair County Chamber of Commerce (BCCC); Patton Township Business Association (PTBA); the Downtown State College Improvement District (DID); and Philipsburg Revitalization Corporation (PRC).

Happy Valley Talent is not connected or affiliated with or specifically endorsed by Penn State University or any university. It is a community effort to encourage engagement between businesses - both local and out of the area - with students as allowed under NIL.

I noticed USC doesn't have one of these collectives, yet they're ranked #1 in recruiting for 2023 with only three commits (including two five stars). Those thinking USC couldn't hang with Bama in recruiting will be in for a surprise I think....

Rubbers are the obvious NIL opportunity there.

So I watched a segment on ESPN yesterday(don't shoot me) dealing with BYU. Seems a wealthy business person in Provo has decided to pay for all walk-ons tuition. Apparently this has taken off and a bunch of P5 schools are talking about it...

This is a great gesture, but probably only attracts 'borderline' D1 recruits without a lot of scholarship options. I did a quick check on tuition costs there and it's pretty low/affordable. More shocking was they only have a 58% graduation rate...(?).

2 words. Lincoln. Riley.

Home run thus far. Timing is impeccable. Escaped the SEC gauntlet. Cristobal left Oregon. Revamped roster should be no worse than 10 wins out west.

Yeah, heard Riley was really turned off by the thought of going to the SEC. USC is going to contend for the Pac 12 title next year and the NC in years to come. My guess is whatever NIL collective they put together it's going to be pretty spectacular - I mean, Caleb Williams had Dr. Dre, Snoop, and Will Ferrell in his USC committment video.

I need to learn more but I donā€™t believe Happy Valley Talent has gained much traction at all. PSU needs to do something more like Gators Collective.

Doubt that it's even that attractive. First, it's tuition only. Second, remember that walk-ons can get cut.. But as you say, it's a wonderful gesture.

I saw Florida has two ā€˜collectivesā€™ - which is this one? The one that leverages contributions from the fan base in exchange for autographs, etc.? Seems like Oregon is the big money model here that really goes all in on ā€˜athlete branding.ā€™

These NILs are organized in partnership with the University? I bet there are others and kind of meaningless without dollar amounts. I think I heard that each OL at TX is getting $50,000 in NIL.

Nope, not allowed. University is aware of them, should approve them, but can't be involved in their organization.

Correct. I know some fans will laugh at it and dislike it as a money grab. It's going to take time for people to buy in on that, but a direct school to players system needs to be just the starting point in my opinion.

"Direct school to player?" I like that. Dispense with all of the NIL crap and simply pay the kids.
