A serious question about Rattler, Satterfield and our offensive philosophy

If our coaches are operating under the assumption that Rattler is only here for a year, WHY would you try to force him to learn some crazy, complicated offense, knowing it will time to get comfortable in it? Just tweak the offense to make it something he's more comfortable with. Whatever we may think about Rattler's skill level, he was clearly better at whatever offense OU ran than what we're running. I don't know if the end result would be markedly different, but it sure as heck couldn't be worse. I just don't see the point of it all. Why bother taking a one-year transfer if you're just gonna piss the year away.

If you didn't hear it, the announcer read an example of a play call that our offense would use. It was absurd.

I don’t know why you’d force anyone to remember those calls. The simple calls seemed to work fine for Riley and OU.

Its simple: Many modern OCs have to over complicate it and are determined to throw the ball at any cost bc it’s how they try to convince everyone of their brilliance.

Especially in the portal era, simpler is better. But our OC seems to want a PhD level of complexity.

Indont think rattler has earned any sortnof shot at the nfl, but I wonder if he doesn't transfer. Especially if Satterfield is retained.

No, certainly not with his play this year. Unless NFL scouts are just wowed by his measurables and arm talent or something.

I guess I just don't see the sense in saying "Ok, we've got you, at the most, 13 games, so let's throw away no less than 5 or 6 games trying to teach you a brand new offense."

Jordan f'ing Rogers doesn't have access to our play calls. Talking out of his ***, like he did most of the game.

Wait, what? - Why would he transfer yet again??? What would be his logic for transferring? Again. I guess the root of my question is why are our coaches under the impression he's only staying 1 year as the OP suggested?

His desire to make it to the nfl is why many figured he'd be a one and done. As for why he would transfer again? If the same offense is brought back next year, will that be the best option for him to show off for scouts?

Ah.... yeah I don't see that one and done thing. As far as the offense goes - seems to me our OL is shaky and that creates wide open spaces. If he'd watch a tape of Connor Shaw + make a tweak to his game all he has do is wait for the line to fall apart and make a play. Lloyd is a beast. Need a WR to step it up and can we please use a TE .

With Rattlers arm, I would dumb down much of the passing game into a dozen good route trees and have him throw to a spot like SOS'S O's did

As much as this a QB and OC issue…..there are also those two other issues

WR actually getting open. Getting some separation

OL blocking / protection….running game setting up the passing game

We have several issues that need to be addressed

I've been wondering about our WR. There were a number of plays where none of WR could get open. Wonder how Stepp is doing.

He may very well transfer, but I don't think that will solve his problems.
I think Doty is better than him to begin with.
There is a reason he never saw the field again after being the exclusive OU-QB at beginning of the season. If he stayed at OU, he would not be starting this year.
It is a shame because we have excellent receivers. I know others may not agree, but I have no problem with that.
I wish he would transfer.

My thoughts:

1) Fair or not, at this point Rattler will not sniff an NFL opportunity after this year.
2) Based on that, figure on him being here another year because ...
3) If I am correct, he cannot transfer and immediately play again unless he would be a GR transfer.
4) Regardless, why do we not incorporate Jaheim (sp?) Bell? He lit up UNC in the bowl game and
how can our OC and staff not get him the ball?
5) Great teams MAKE THIS HAPPEN, regardless of defensive sets and scheming.
6) I do agree that we need to change the philosophy and do what works for this offense and for
Rattler because he did much better at OU.

My humble thoughts ... life is good - Peace!

Rattler would get drafted if he left this year, albeit late in the draft. Who knows, he may boost his stock by showing great measurables in NFL workouts/combine. Scouts love the measurables. The rationale that was floated previously is that, at this point, he probably wouldn't stand to boost his stock much by coming back for another season, so he might as well go pro after this season. Obviously I have no idea, like everyone else. But, yes, to your point #6, I still don't see the rationale in taking a transfer QB and plugging him into a system that he's not well-suited to play. Maybe they were hoping his overall talent would compensate for the incompatibilities with the system.

He did his freshman year. His sophomore year stats looked a lot like this year's stats. And this is odd to me, because he had lots of talent around him and weaker defenses to go against.

I thought his second year numbers overall were pretty good (obviously not as good as his FR year) and the fact that Caleb Williams gave the team a lift was why he was benched ... I don't recall his numbers being similar to this year ... understood about the weaker defenses and overall talent, though I do like Lloyd and Bell (Juice, too) .. those are very good athletes ...

Yeah, his stats from his sophomore year:

Team. TD. INT
Tulane. 1. 2
W carolina. 5. 0
Nebraska. 1. 0
WVU. 1. 1
Ksu. 2. 1
Texas. 0. 1

Minus the drubbing of western Carolina, he was averaging 1 td and 1 int per game over 5 games. (He was benched during that Texas game)

To be fair, those numbers are better than his 5 tds and 8 ints through 6 games this year.

Your handle as Lurker is there for a reason :)-)) ... pedestrian numbers at best (minus WCU) ... hopefully, over this bye week, Beamer and Satt are having heart to heart conversations ... there must be upticks, changes if they are going to win some games ....
