Tough scene. Sounds like a murder / suicide by cops.

Don’t know much about the shooters identity, but he was wearing body armor, with an IED and assault rifles.

WTF was going on between the NOLA police chief/mayor and the fibbie b!+ch? The police chief correctly called it a terrorist act and the fibbie directly contradicted that declaration seconds later.
I was wondering the same thing. Is there some criteria to make it a terrorist attack because that certainly checks some boxes for me.

If it’s a terrorist attack the FBI holds some of the blame, at least in the eyes of the public. If it’s just some disgruntled coonass then the FBI can wash their hands of the whole situation and call it an isolated incident.

Looks like the truck may have had a flag displayed on the back at one time.

FBI now saying it’s being investigated as act of terrorism.

I would think this almost certainly qualifies as a domestic terrorism.

Truck had Texas plates. Might have been some out of state. FBI is already involved.

Can I ask, what does it matter what it is called? At the end of the day a lunatic murdered a lot of people, if the label of terrorist attack comes off of it, what does that change?
Terrorism is considered a more serious offense and can result in more severe penalties.

That was kinda my point. Police chief says terrorism and FBI immediately says it isn’t. Does it really matter? A bunch of people were killed.

Weird. I recognize the little dealer bug on the back immediately. The dealership where the truck came from, Max Haik, is in Desoto, TX just south of Dallas. I had them do some body work on my car before.

From their own website, terrorism is the FBI's top investigative priority.

So, I have to assume they look bad if an incident like this is labeled terrorism because they didn't prevent it.

I'm sure they're in full cover our azz mode with the scrutiny that's about to rain down on them as soon as Trump gets to town.

They are waiting till more is known about the perp. If he was a nut job school shooter type then it won't be called terrorism. If he had a political type axe to grind then it will be. It's not some grand conspiracy.

Because we need to politicize eveything. This one was a tough call, support a city admin that you’d never otherwise support or give the FBI some credit for being measured in their response. Quite the pickle…

How would they look bad? Is the expectation that they monitor every truck in the nation in case the driver goes off the rails?

I’m just waiting to hear that this person was already on the FBI watchlist (as they always seem to be) but nothing ever seems to be done.

My wife’s cousin was apparently a block away when it happened. Said they are being forced to stay in their hotel because they’re still worried about a possible bomb that hasn’t been detonated.

-local guy
-truck with TX plates that just crossed the border (but the border is secure and nothing nefarious would ever cross that border)
-bulletproof vest
-guns
-explosive device

Yeah, doesn’t seem like possible terrorism to me. I don’t care what your motives are, it is all terrorism when you boil it down.

Never have understood the need to speculate - especially by 3rd parties not impacted. Give it a few hours and let the facts be established then call it whatever makes you happy. It's not going to be good for anyone labels be damned.
