76 in the day and 68 at night. Never really gets to 76 in the day until about 2:00, so my air basically shuts off at 7:30 and doesn't come on again until about 2:00. Then it bumps down to 73 about 7:00 & 68 at 10:00. A Nest thermostat is great! Highest bill I've ever had is $210. Average a little over $100.
You really shouldn't run an A/C below 68.

77' and never touch it. Ceiling fans going in whatever room we're in. If that sounds warm to you come work outside all day every day with me and 77' feels like a meat cooler after that

Similar to my house - my wife is always burning up & I am always cold, she wants it 68 & I prefer 72. We COMPROMISED at 68.
This is the type of compromise I have grown to sadly understand. My dad told me about it but I didn’t get it until about 10 years in.

70 day and 67 night. If it gets hot enough that the A/C struggles, we bought a portable room A/C to make sure we are comfortable.

Main unit 72, bedroom unit 69.

Question while we are on the topic of A/C.
You get in someone's car and are hot. Do you ask them to turn the A/C up or down?

71 day / 65 night. I’m at home ~2 days during the week. Might bump it to 72 on days I’m gone.

Got a small upstairs section that we keep 75 day & night

We have Time Of Use (higher than normal rates during peak, lower than normal off peak) electricity billing. Peak billing is about 7x off peak rates. I've become crazy with optimizing our semi-smart thermostat.

72 at 5am until 12p
68 until Peak
75 during Peak (3-6pm during week)
72 until bedtime.
70 at bedtime, until 5am.

When the wife and I are away 78 until a couple of hours before we get home.

So, you run your air at 72 when you are not at home?

75° during the day and 72° during the night with a fan by the bed. I tried 73° at night but we couldn't sleep. Our reason is the electric bill. It was $412 last month.

If anyone who keeps their air in the low 70's or lower consistently would be willing to look and post a recent monthly kwh usage for a month, I'd be interested to know.

Yeah, guess my house is pretty well insulated. AC doesn’t cut on till noon even during this hot spell, and then either me or the kids will be home just after 3. It would save some to bump it up higher, but that’s maybe 10 hours per week - from noon till 3:15ish that the house is empty. During summer my wife is home a lot (teacher).

Now obviously if we’re going to be gone all day, I’ll bump it up more. But it’s just rare for someone to not be at our house starting around 3:15

On the flip side - we keep it COLD during the winter. So we probably save on gas what we waste on electricity

Just crack a window at night and let the cool air fill the house. Should stay comfortable through the following afternoon. Wait one, being told you prefer the hot sticky coastal humidity over the crisp thin mountain

This is the right answer.

A lot of y'all apparently would have simply died in 1920 Mississippi.

Many of us had NO AC thru school, including MSU , I think except maybe in Lee Hall.
We all like it a little cooler.

That's what we do on a hot day. Hit 98° back in July... Close all the windows during the day, once it gets below 72° at night (nice thing about the mountains is it dips into the 50's all summer long) we open a window on one side of the house and stick a box fan blowing out on the other side of the house and suck the cool air through. By morning it's 67° inside.

I wish I had a whole house attic fan like my grandparents did back in Texas. That dude created a 20 mph breeze in the house.

Attic fans were the poor man’s HVAC
But. Your voice would not vibrate if you talked behind an attic fan like it did a window fan. Good redneck entertainment

What you bums keep the thermostat on during this heat? I say 72, ms Skipper says 70.
No Pics
Ac? I don't have AC because I'm not going to be responsible for the global climate change**

We bought our house in 2019 and in 2021 we had some problems so I bought 2 new units. I got a higher SEER rating so they run almost all the time but it's running very low. We have it set on 73 degrees all the time, but can bump it down to 72 if we need to. Like someone said every house is different, so if we bump it down to 71 it will be too cold for anyone.

Not sure about that - but I've always kept up with my electric bills. My current house, it costs me $500 - $700 per year to run my AC depending on how hot the weather is. I figure even if I could save $300 per summer by keeping my house warmer, would it be worth it? No thanks

68 night, 74 day. I need to get some new attic insulation blown in because when it's hot, the AC comes on about noon and doesn't shut off until like 5-6 pm.
