So the “dirty little back alley deals” no longer happen? Huh.
Save your McDonalds bags, they are good for transfering cash
So the “dirty little back alley deals” no longer happen? Huh.
Oh, no, those deals are still happening but even more frequently and for larger sums because people think they're okay.
Yeah, because they never benefitted monetarily or were given preferential treatment to the average student paying full tuition prior to NIL.On the other side of the coin, it’s good to see the players finally able to openly benefit financially from the cash cow that is college football.
The dirty little back alley deals can now move into the past.
LOL, I think they are ok currently, it's the wild wild west out there, until a strict guideline of do's and don'ts are implemented it's all fair game.Oh, no, those deals are still happening but even more frequently and for larger sums because people think they're okay.
I don't disagree if your point is about CJF's ceiling, but the Huskies got smashed by Michigan and OSU would have also beaten them.So this will be the new excuse every time we lose to OSU, "Just can't afford to compete with them"? I can't believe Washington was buying guys left and right, they had a damn good coach and staff that got it done.
Yeah, so now they have a shot at beating TTUN. It is amazing hwo quickly they used the Aggie AD to open up the pocket books to lure them in. Just a few weeks ago prior to the arrival, the Buckeye Podcasts were lamenting the fact that OSU was virtuously requiring kids to earn the NIL after arrival. Once they hired the Aggie, that all changed quickly. So what does that mean for us the greatest program in the history of the NCAA...we have no more than 2 years to adapt, affect change, or become Iowa. My heart is brokenCaleb Downs, 5 star DB and now the #1 QB in 2024 class, Julian Sayin, just portaled to the Bucs. CFB is a complete pile of sh*t.
Ever the optimist, I can only hope that they meet the Aggie destiny, falling short of donor expectations and hiring Duke coaches. it is absolutely in the range of outcomes for the Buckeyes to lose a game, one game, and stroke out the alumni base. Stay strong Lions fans, they suffer from failure fragility like no other fan base in America.PSU has one, maybe two years to prove it can hang with the big boys under this old model of roster building or it better get ready to pay big money to reload year after year. The program can very easily become the place where you go to start your career and then you make a jump to a contender for more money after a year or two. This is the baseball steroid era of college football. If you aren’t doing it, the other guy is. Colorado, OSU, and the entire SEC are juicing and they won’t hesitate to over do it if that means they win. As much as I applaud the grand experiment, that was a battle for a different time when wars were fought with sticks and stones. This is modern warfare, the old rules don’t apply.
and we heard it most recently from Pryor himself who thought State College was "too country"Columbus is a major metropolitan city. Doesn't have any professional other than NHL. tOSU football is the biggest game in town.
PSU is in the middle of no where compared to tOSU being in the heart of a major metropolitan region, and state capitol.
There is a huge difference between the two.
At some point even little weenie energy will begin to question if all this money is worth the loyalty, the cost of tickets and over inflated sense of importance. Just like emails, the Millenials may yet prove valuable in American culture and put college football in its proper station in life“They got us started, but it needs to get bigger and better fast. And that’s what we’ve got to do moving forward”
I wouldn't say they got smashed, definitely a different gm if there RB was healthy and not sure I agree about OSU, MIzzu smacked them around, all that 5 star talent need to have a better showing than that.I don't disagree if your point is about CJF's ceiling, but the Huskies got smashed by Michigan and OSU would have also beaten them.
Given my age, marital status, and ability to get women under 50 to smile at me, I occasionally find the Midnighter polls depressing. We’ve got a winner! Most Depressing non-JVP Thread in McAndrew Board history.
Ah, so it’s not just me.Given my age, marital status, and ability to get women under 50 to smile at me, I occasionally find the Midnighter polls depressing.
NittanyBuff with the win, the evidence is starting to say that they can't win with all that so-called talent. If they don't win next year then the jury is in. But on the bright side, their O-line talent is way down from expectations, and they don't have a Garret Wilson or MHJ yet to win the game for them. So they will need their D to carry them.I wouldn't say they got smashed, definitely a different gm if there RB was healthy and not sure I agree about OSU, MIzzu smacked them around, all that 5 star talent need to have a better showing than that.
Um, you are forgetting the current MLS champion Columbus Crew. Given that some of their players are making millions per year, it's a fully professional sport. You may not like soccer. And it's not the EPL. But it is getting bigger every year.Columbus is a major metropolitan city. Doesn't have any professional other than NHL. tOSU football is the biggest game in town.

No "strict guidelines" are necessary, just common sense. Expecting a university to exercise common sense is probably asking too much.LOL, I think they are ok currently, it's the wild wild west out there, until a strict guideline of do's and don'ts are implemented it's all fair game.
2 million people in Columbus metro, and signifcant population growth in the projections. Lots of people buying cars, lots of car dealerships!I can't understand where OSU gets the money from, it's Ohio, not California, Florida, Texas . I could even understand ND with all of it's alumni.
What i'm getting at , what do they have logistically that PSU doesn't ? Does their alumni have more wealth ? do their fans not complain about ticket prices?
I see nothing classy about OSU , i just don't, but they are paying.
Common sense and facts are not allowed on here.2 million people in Columbus metro, and signifcant population growth in the projections. Lots of people buying cars, lots of car dealerships!
In a 30minute drive around campus, Ohio State has over 6x more people than Penn State. More people, more businesses, more revenue, and a lot more millionaires willing to cough up some money to the NIL collective or to have the local sport heroes in their business's commercials.
In addition, Les Wexner and the Schottenstein and Ratner families are major benefactors. The Schottensteins, in particular, actively solicit their network.2 million people in Columbus metro, and signifcant population growth in the projections. Lots of people buying cars, lots of car dealerships!

College sports is a pile of sh*t!The worst thing about this idea that fans are now on the hook for NIL means coaches, like Franklin, can blame them when recruiting classes aren't up to snuff (and for losses, etc.).

College sports is a pile of sh*t!
Fans already support everything by buying tickets, going to games, buying merchandise, donating to the school, and watching games on streaming/cable. A coach making millions of dollars a year needs to STFU about fans supporting NIL too.
Mack Jones says, “Hold my beer.”The worst thing about this idea that fans are now on the hook for NIL means coaches, like Franklin, can blame them when recruiting classes aren't up to snuff (and for losses, etc.).
