Anyone else who attended the game find the WVU fans to be rude, nasty, inhospitable and low class?

If I ever hear a Penn State fan treat visiting fans the way we were treated, I’ll personally let them taste the back of my hand. Thank goodness WVU is not in the Big Ten. Too trashy.

I did not go, but friends from Western Pennsylvania did and said that they basically had one of the best away game experiences ever, that is until the storm came through.

We were at a FSU vs Miami game at the old Orange Bowl years ago. That’s the first time I ever remember actually worrying about an all out brawl. Not between a few drunk individuals but between entire sections of fans. The Miami fans were so over the top obnoxious and taunting the FSU visiting sections that I really thought we were going to watch a riot in the upper deck.

This string should have the subject line..."The pot calling the kettle black." I've witnessed some very "nasty" PSU fans at games too. I once saw a PSU fan tear off a Wisky fans cheesehead and rip it in half in front of him.

Agreed, I’ve seen a lot of idiots. How can we forget 2002 Nebraska and the old man cowboy hat fiasco.

I think Sandusky has allowed opposing fans a level of assholery unseen by other schools.

This ^ Last year some middle aged and older PSU fans were making jokes about WVU fans marrying their cousins and similar stuff. I can understand drunken college students uttering that stuff but as we age we are supposed to have more developed brains.

Agreed. PSU fans are just as bad as any other college football fan base.

Times have changed unfortunately. Civility is no longer even thought of, let alone demonstrated. In the old days, a Penn State game was a treat for everyone, including opposing fans. The town, the tradition, the charity at tailgates, the football talk, the stadium -- it was a wonderful environment and opposing fans said so. I met really knowledgeable football fans from Nebraska, Alabama, Texas, Texas A&M, and our eastern brethren schools over the years.

No more. People are scared of one another as if they were members of warring tribes. It was probably inevitable that more PSU fans would become less gracious over time. Times change. People are less civil and not cognizant of one another in general.

Their favorite chant was fu Paterno, fu Penn state. Not UM people just Miami thugs egged on by JImmy and his gang.

Through 40 years of season tickets, and dozens of away games, from Syracuse to Notre Dame, I've found that all fan bases are pretty much the same. All have their share of saints and sinners. I've seen a lot of ugliness at our home games, and not all of it was directed at fans of the other team. As for WVU, in the 70's and 80's, when we played them every year, I never missed a game at Morgantown, and never once had a problem. Sure, there were verbal taunts on occasion, but it never rose above that. Perhaps times have changed since 2010 when I last attended a game. If so, it reflects the ill-mannered nature of today's society, which rears its head all too often on this board. As Shakespeare said, "let us be better strangers". If we must hurl insults at each other, let them rise to a higher level. "Your Mountaineer team has delusions of mediocrity." That would bring out a laugh at Iowa, once someone explained it. In any event, the Gambits are still on the road and headed for a picnic lunch. God bless us, everyone.

The wife and I were welcomed into the bowels of the blue lot with great hospitality. Quite a few F*ck Penn States and Sandusky references, but I enjoy some pre-game sh*t talking. All in all, the atmosphere was rocking and the WVU fans were as passionate as advertised

Sandusky references are tired, weak, unimaginative; and l, I’m not sure why they find child abuse funny. Like the Lair Neanderthals that repeat it over and over again. Honestly, their obsession with it is weird.

We heard quite a few Sandusky references from dumb *** college kids while at Auburn. As we were walking to the game, one kid sticks his head out the car window and just yells "Sandusky!".....one of our group pulled out his phone, did some scrolling and said "Sandusky, Ohio is about a 12 hour drive from here - just go north on I-75 and you will see the signs".

The kid was lost at that response.

Conversely, the adults were gracious, polite and welcoming.

We were in the overnight RV lot beside the coloseum and were treated very well. Played corn hole, shared some good local moonshine and partied Friday night and Saturday with the locals and they were, almost to a person, very welcoming and great to hang out with. Only one drunk kid yelled at us from his car after the game on the walk back to the RV.

An excellent evaluation. However why does the thought linger in my mind that you also view today’s heighten level of animosity as a golden opportunity for Fairgambit Global Medical Industries to supply used bandages and gauze to dazed victims at exorbitant prices.

Two exceptions for me. Far and away the most gracious were Nebraska fans in Lincoln. Ohio State. While the fans weren't rude or anything like that, I/we found Columbus to be quite unfriendly no matter whether it was tailgating, in the stadium or at hotels and bars

Same for me. Son and I wore our Penn State shirts at Nebraska and met lots of friendly folks. We arrived 5 hours early for Ohio State, ate across from the campus.
The most unfriendly group ever.
