That's pretty gnarly. Saw there's some talk of blackouts again.

Most of TX is being eaten up by this heat wave…

105 in Houston is murderous. We get that all the time in DFW, but less humidity softens the blow somewhat.

Damn global warming.******

Yes. It's been miserably hot. 30 minutes outside tops and that's typically only if you're doing something in the shade or water.

It's on pace to the best hottest summer ever. May was the 2nd hottest ever. June was the hottest ever. July has been 100F or higher almost every day it feels like.

There was a day or two in late June that it never got over 95. Other than that, it's been 95 or hotter pretty much every day for 40-50 straight days.

A lot of the long range forecasters I follow were saying it could be a rough summer. 3rd year La Nina’s are rare and they tend to be pretty bad. Last one was 2000. Many of us remember how hot and dry that summer was.

I'm most mad that I spent a **** ton of time working on an awesome garden box so I could grow me some sweet corn and other things. The stalks got about 4' high and then the heat has just kicked their *** and they've stopped growing. I had a watermelon get to just below a volleyball size and then stop growing as well.

A relative of mine declares that most tomato varieties will stop setting fruit if the temp goes above 96 degrees.

Lived in Houston my whole life. This heat is freaking terrible. Been at two friends farms the last two weekends in Round Top and Burnet and unless you have a pool, going outside during the day is not worth it until 7 o'clock or so. We picked up our kids at camp in Burnet on Saturday. 70 year old screened in cabins with no AC for 3 weeks. Not one of my kids mentioned damn thing about how hot it has been. Granted they get a little breeze off the lake but I wouldn't last a night there. When left Burnet yesterday at noon it was already 102 degrees.

You better have some evaporative spray or coolers in your pool, too. I had a friend whose pool temp was 98 deg F in his pool late last week up in Conroe. No thanks.

Im new to the gardening game, but after reading up on some stuff the last few weeks, I’m in agreement. My peppers and okra are still producing, but they slowed a whole whole bunch in late May. My corn and watermelon quit in early June.

I’ve kept it adequately watered and hit it twice with nitrogen based fertilizer and still can’t get it going.

Its not the hot temps in the daytime, it’s the hot nights that are killing your plants. When it doesn’t go below 78 the plants never get a chance to take a break. They’re in survivor mode and making fruit becomes secondary.

I guess windmills don't work in the heat, either?

Houston doesn't get over 100 that much. The humidity just doesn't allow that to happen. But upper 90s in Houston is brutal enough.

I live north of Houston. My outside sensor hit 106 on Sunday.
I brought it inside to make sure it was calibrated correctly. It was.
pool was 92 yesterday. Reminds me of 2011.
