Beamer's offensive philosophy: "Get the ball to our best players"

I had not seen Beamer's post-game interview with Cole Cubelic. At the 1:53 mark he says, with a tinge of frustration in his voice, "I told Satterfield midway through the 3rd quarter 'just get the ball to our best players and let them go make plays.'"

We scored our only two real offensive TDs from that point on.

Yep. If I interpret Shane's tone correctly, the meaning was "You're overthinking it. Just get the ball to our best players."
Agree, but it needs to be in their hands in a position to make a play and not running into the backs of our own linemen on every down.

Hey, whatever it takes to win a game... but I do look forward to the day it becomes about wider distribution. Guess we have a ways to go.

Frankly it’s way past time that message was sent in a way Satterfield could understand it. Hope it was firmly implanted so there is carry over for the rest of the season. It would be good to take our te out of the deep freeze.

It should be boldly emblazoned on the top of his play sheet!

Agree. That was as harsh a pubic critique as you will see most head coaches give an assistant.

Pubic critique? That is harsh. lol

All the individual players he named got fewer targets in the 6 drives from the middle of the 3rd than they did in the 6 drives before. The only one that got more was Lloyd. And that isn't unusual.

He said the same thing in his postgame interview, and then said they didn't do much different than they had before. Said execution was better.

I think that was just coach speak. Same folks involved after the middle of the third were involved before then. We actually targeted the "best players" he listed more before the middle of the third.

Hardly. Hardly. Lloyd had 3 first half carries. He had 15 carries in the second half. Fourteen of those second half carries came after the midway point of the 3rd quarter. Our first TD in the second half featured Lloyd carrying the ball on 5 out of 6 plays. He was also the catalyst on our 2nd TD drive in the 2nd half and came in to save the drive after it very nearly stalled out on 3rd down.

It's plain for all to see that Lloyd is playmaker right now, but you only hand him the ball THREE times in the first half. Three???? Beamer tells Satterfield to wise up and start getting him the ball. He does that and we promptly score 2 TDs.

As it pertains to the run game driving our offense, our only other TD drive of the game that came in the 2nd half also featured the run, with 6 of 8 plays being run plays.

In total, on our 3 TD drives, we had 18 total plays, 15 of which were run plays. It doesn't take a genius to figure this out. Our failed drives were all MUCH more pass heavy.

Incontrovertible analysis versus wistful assertion. Twice that we know of, the head coach has had to assert himself in games. To his credit, he did it. He has to be scratching his head over his offensive braintrust by now.

To me it just seems pretty obvious. This offense has been most successful when it is run-first and when Marshawn is heavily involved.

I knew we didn't run a bunch in the first half, but going back and looking at the plays, it's criminal that Marshawn only got 3 first half carries.

Sometimes these guys who are being paid big bucks just don't get it. Reminds me of our game with Auburn last year. Bobo had a quality back in Tank B. He needed a critical yard on 4th down. What does he do. Called a pass which was incomplete. Thanks goodness! We stopped them took possession and won the game.

It's odd. Some OCs will just ride whatever's working until stops working. Other OCs seem to avoid what's working for the sake of trying to outsmart everyone.

You may be the ONLY one who didn't see it as a public critique. From fans, SEC announcers and local sports writers all seem to agree that is exactly what it was.

Perfect example of high-salaried obtuseness.
