Dawn is going to have to rethink the make-up of this team. They exposed our lack of outside shooting and our aggressive defense. Clark look like a women amongst girls.

Hard to believe we are loaded with All-Americans but only have one or two ladies that can shoot beyond the free throw line.

Iowa has a better balanced team. USC lacks outside shooting. I guess Staley has preferred size over shooting. Tonight it didn't work.

Clark #22 from Iowa is just a beast. There was no answer for that. She was zipping around all over the court picking us apart.

And we weren’t able to make hardly any baskets towards the end there. Free throws or anything. Should have won this one. But Iowa came to play tonight and earned the W.

Time to focus on next season I suppose.

Zia Cook and and our 6'7 big are the only two that showed up tonight. All of their points were one on one moves or 2nd shots. No real offense tonight. Looked like street ball.

I don't really think the better team won. I think the team who executed its game plan won, though. Our girls looked lost on offense, with the exception of Zia. I don't think we needed more outside shooters as much as we needed to actually execute _our_ offensive plan, which is to pound it inside.

Defensively, Clark did what we expected her to do. She threw up 17 or 18 3-pointers and made 5 or 6. What was bothersome is that our big girls were constantly out of position leaving wide open cutters to the basket.

Anyway, it's hard to have a perfect season. Perhaps we should have lost the Ole Miss game in the regular season to remind the team that they could still lose. Kudos to Iowa also for reminding everyone that the ability to hit free throws is a tremendous weapon (did they miss one all night?)

Better balanced team? One girl is all they have. None of the other 4 could even start for us. But we do lack outside shooting. I don't think that will be an issue next year....

They were certainly the better team tonight.

Very hard to pound it inside when they back 4 girls down. Only one way to loosen the defense. We got very little help from our bigs on Clark but everytime they did help, she burned us with an assist.

Staley made no adjustments and out of the gate second half we looked lazy. This is another one that slipped away. Iowa will handle LSU. Disappointing lose. Zia was awesome but had 3 bad turnovers in the last 4:40- probably tired. WE had many wide open shooters that missed hitting anything and not just 3 pointers. Weird game. Clark got in their heads I believe. Staley couldn't create fire in em.
still gotta figure, Zia Cook's NIL is 800k. So she aint that sad. I am most happy for Raven. made some shots finally.

One more thing: Boston has had a tremendous college career and I hope she has a great WNBA career as well. But she would absolutely DOMINATE if she . . . jumped. She doesn't have to jump like a deer - that's not her. But I think she gets most of her rebounds and blocks without her feet ever leaving the court.

Better team won my ***. That same team lost to Maryland by 22 a few weeks ago. You’re telling me the 5 11 girls are blocking Boston and Cardosa shots under the basket with the ball high above their heads? It was an inside hack show and Butch the ref was calling every little touch on us in both halfs. How many fouls did u see get the called under the basket as we were shooting? Maybe 2 out of 25.

Clark is damn good and i think we made an error in not leaving Boston or Cardosa back to help as she drove. Make the two other Iowa bigs have to make 3s. That’s two games in a row. I’ve never seen us let people drive inside without someone backed to help. Some of their other players may have made a few threes but it wasn’t going to be devastating.

stop with the clown post. Going to have to rethink a team that has been to three straight final fours and should have a 4th. We do need another good shooter, but our philosophy has been to the final for a hell of a lot more than Iowa. Take Clark off that team they don’t sniff the tournament.

USC let Clark get far too many layups. USC had only one offensive strategy: score in close. If we had a girl or two who could make a wide open 10 foot shot, we would have won. We passed up shots all game from inside 15 feet trying to force the ball closer. Bad strategy.

Blame the refs. Classy! Clark is on their team and will be be again for at least one more year. Maybe we can play in a tournament w/o Clark?

We certainly agree on that first statement. As for Clark's assists, you are exactly right. Which is why I said in another thread the other day that we should treat her like Jordan in his early years with the Bulls (pre-Pippen and a substantial supporting cast). She's going to score her points anyway, so just make sure nobody else gets a bunch of easy points. Don't get suckered into double-teaming her 15 feet from the basket only to leave somebody else wide open underneath. Let Clark score 40 or 45 points in a loss.

Oh, well, It doesn't do much good to game-plan now. Dawn knows a lot more about basketball than I do, but it's a frustrating night because you could kind of feel this coming with this matchup. With the talent on this team, they really shouldn't have lost to anybody. Ever. Normally, I would say it's ridiculous to say such a thing because so much goes into a perfect NCAA tournament run that can't be controlled. But this team is head-and-shoulders better than everybody else and it's a real shame that they looked like they didn't have much of a plan tonight.

I said it before the game and still believe a triangle and two with our two best defenders on Clark would have been successful. Keep the ball out of her hands.

I understand the comparison to Jordan and his 63 against the Celtics but you have to take the ball out of her hands in my opinion.

I didn't understand the ending. She is the last player you want to recieve the ball to foul yet we were playing her 1 on 1. I would have put three girls on her to ensure she didn't get the ball or I would have fouled another girl before the ball was inbounded. I didn't like our strategy.

Pick and roll, give and go, back screens, ball screens, Midwestern offensive basketball - team basketball. It was like watching "Hoosiers" in terms of offensive strategy - very well drilled.
Laughed because it won't let me like and laugh. Had to pick one. The Hoosiers comment made me spit my water.
