USC’s time management / lack of urgency in their final drive in regulation!
Lincoln Riley said that was intentional after they lost yards on a first down play. They didn't want to leave time on the clock for PSU. It's not a terrible idea once you're behind the sticks in that situation. Others will probably argue it shows a lack of confidence in your offense, your best unit, to win the game. Both arguments are valid and that situation was a tricky one, it think it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. Unless USC had scored I think fans criticize either decision in hindsight.

I liked the decision…not a bad idea to make the worst case scenario OT after losing yards.

But once they got a first down or two they still were in a sleepwalking mode.

Our inability to effectively run against the USC defense.
I believe the running game with either RB would have been more effective as our OL wore down their front 7, but PSU bailed on that strategy when it became apparent early that the USC offense was going to put up points.

If there was more time on the clock, we probably win in regulation after the interception. If the last pass is complete they probably win in regulation. Doesn't seem like the clock management was all that bad.

Any idea how many Psu fans were in attendance, looked quite impressive.
I believe it was 30-40% PSU. It was sold out but there were a ton of empty seats all over the stadium. Most PSU wore white, but there were literally hundreds who wore blue or grey. If they all wore white, it would have been more impressive.

I had a girl stop me when we were walking down Figueroa toward the stadium. She asked why there were so many PSU fans. She thought it was a special game for us. She lives by the stadium and said she had never seen so many visiting fans. It was an impressive showing.

Some people continue to harp about time management but I haven’t seen any sign of a problem in the last two years. If they listen to the radio broadcast, they would hear why James is making his time management decisions. Jack Ham makes the complainers sound uninformed about football.

I was surprised at USCs ability to run against us. While they only ran for about a buck ninety, they averaged 7.9 per rush. That's Ki Jana territory.

A big part of that was the reverse for a TD and the broken play for a long gain. It wasn’t as if they were grinding out long runs all game.

Escaping with a Win. Although it was Yom Kippur, I watched the game in agony, elation, and selfish prayer.

There have definitely been many situations through the years where I thought Franklin made mistakes with time management...almost always in being too aggressive at the end of halfs with his clock management. Getting into 3rd and long and calling a quick timeout, calling a timeout after an unsuccessful 3rd down play only to turn around and punt, and/or calling timeouts too early in late drives and giving the ball back with time on the clock for the other team to score.

I think a lot of his analytical-driven decisions that people question aren't bad calls on his part (ie some of the 4th downs we go for)...but time management would be my biggest criticism over the past decade.

This is why this site is dead. Bait and boob.
It's dead because of all of the silly grouped topics that are nothing but twitter links. Both approaches stifle discussion. There's almost no actual messages and discussion on this so called message board. The cringey posts about women that are condoned and encouraged by the mods is just the icing on the cake.

Well, the "reverse" was actually an end-around, but it worked so well because USC faked a reverse. One of the best fake reverses I've seen in a long time. Here is a recap video. The end-around starts at the 0:24 mark.
