Spurrier had two unexcusable choke jobs that could have gotten us in the playoffs (Auburn (home), Tennessee (Road). We had all the players we needed to win. Didn't get it done. Then gave his teams rings for being a good contender. Then he quit on his team in the middle of a season after he was the one that cost us in recruiting telegraphing that he wanted to retire. No, our program does not take in the money of a Georgia or an Alabama, but we do take in over 60 million in revenues each year. That should be able to buy you a good QB (we have that). A good coach (Jury still out) and round a competitive roster. You don't need a roster full of 4 and 5 stars to compete. You have got to get the QB position right and spend your NIL on bonafide guys that you can pencil in the lineup. A program like South Carolina can't afford to have their top recruit taking 1/2 a year learning how to play a position. BTW, Title IX was enacted in 1972 I think. We won with Spurrier some 30 years after that. So, scapegoating spending money on Women's Sports is just another one of those lame excuses that I keep talking about when some of our fans talk why our football program struggles.
I still remember him burning 2 timeouts on a 4th and inches late in that 2013 UT game, then deciding to punt.

Seems reasonable, but I'm not sure which group you're talking about. The group that thinks it's sad to have the wbb threads, or the group that is trying to harass them for voicing that opinion?

They both seem to want to "control" what others are posting.
No one is wanting to control you. Just saying if you don't like what someone starts as a thread don't bother them. No one needs to know about your dislikes from the peanut gallery. That's all.

All that money we could have spent from 1972. Shame. I'm not arguing it is what it is.
Women's Sports is a subsidy. You think Carolina hockey got an upper hand like that starting out as a club?
Dude, do you know what Revenue we take in? Do you have any idea of our recruiting budget? Our most recent recruiting budget was a half million dollars more than LSU and their program just won a National Championship 3-4 years ago. Louisiana is a more fertile ground for football recruiting than South Carolina and that allows LSU to mainly stay local in recruiting, but we are still outspending programs with a lot of tradition without the results. So, stop crying about the small fraction of what's spent on a Women's Athletic Program. That is not changing anything. Like I said, our football program takes in over 60 million dollars in revenue and that doesn't take into account the money raised for the program for NIL like Garnet Trust. We are not Georgia, but our program is by no means broke. Better decisions need to be made. You could give us Georgia's Revenue and we probably still wouldn't do any better with some of the decisions that have been made with regards to our Athletic programs.

We're not serious about winning. we send it all back to academics. That's not the name of the game, and you can't buy tradition.

Enough to regularly fill up the Colonial Life Arena. Something our Men's team couldn't do even when they made the Final Four. I am not the biggest fan of Women's Athletics. I am a fan of our WBB team because I enjoy seeing someone in a Gamecock uniform kick a**. You don't get to see that a lot and it's enjoyable to see. My issue is someone having the audacity to try to control what people talk about. In my almost 30 years of participating on message boards like this, I have seen all types of ridiculous threads especially the political ones that sometimes go 50 and 60 pages long. Grown men arguing with complete strangers like that is going to change a "Grown A** Man's" mind. I have unfortunately participated in some of these threads out of utter frustration that people seem to not want to talk sports on a sports message board. Seen threads about fishing, duck hunting, etc. Nobody bothers them. However, the minute someone else wants to talk about something a few control freaks are not interested in, they want to whine, complain, and chime in that they are not interested. Apparently those people are interested enough to bother people minding their own business. It's fine to like what you like, but who made themselves message board warden to control what others post?
Exactly ! This is the reason I would like to have WBB have its' own forum. Why do I have to go to a Pulldown "other sports " to see if anything is new . If WBB had its'own forum maybe others wouldn't get so bent out of shape

No one is trying to control? You realize this was in response to a post where you complain about people trying to control what others post, right? They were your words, not mine.

I'll add, you followed that up with a post chock full of complaints about your dislikes, but you apparently don't want to read that from others. I guess you think your peanut gallery dislikes are different.

Seems me calling out the hypocrisy and your utter lack of self awareness was pretty spot on.

Well, you just made a compelling case for scuttling varsity athletics altogether. I'd be OK with it. It won't happen, but maybe it should.
I've said that a few times, as have others. Why should semi-pro ball be tied to a college, instead of an NFL team, it isn't amateur sports anymore and the kids couldn't care less about the school. But I'll always wish the Gamecocks the best.

I'm about there with you. My interest in watching NFL/NBA/MLB Light is very low. My interest in watching any women's sport at any level is zero.

I'd be perfectly happy with the Ivy league/D3 model of no scholarships and athletes had to be admitted to the school BEFORE they could join a team.
Agree completely, I have other interests that have taken over my Saturdays, I'll still watch if I'm here, but the days of watching college football all day Saturday are over. I still plan to attend at least one high school game this year, maybe a playoff game.

The Women's Final Four averaged 6.5 million viewers last year. That's not the men's number, but that is a respectable number. The Final Game between LSU and Iowa hit 9.9 million viewers. That's a similar number to what Deion is getting for Colorado football games. As a comparison, our game against Georgia averaged 5.42 million viewers. Not saying that the women's games will ever approach men's sports in influence. However, if you don't recognize that Women's Basketball is a growing sport that has a growing audience, you are asleep at the wheel. It's akin to not recognizing the recent growth of the NHL. I am a big NBA guy and the NHL directly competes with the NBA. Similar season length along with time of the year played. The NHL is considered the nation's fourth major sport. However, if the NBA doesn't get some of its stuff together with the load management and political dramatics, they are going to lag behind at least in this country. The NBA is a more global sport so I don't think they are seeing this shift because it's not hurting their bottom line right now.
Wait until the NIL money starts being demanded for WBB, won't be long now. Dawn, being a political activist, will likely be the one championing it.

We have a coaching staff that any top school would want.
Of course we do because we’re at the top of the pay scale for women’s basketball, and woefully behind in all our men’s sports. Not sure why so many fans don’t understand what has happened here. USC decided to go get one of the top coaches in women’s basketball, and pay her and her staff top dollar to get and maintain. The results speak for themselves. When we decide to make the same commitment in the men’s sports, they will succeed as well

Funny thing is, even though women's basketball is, far and away, our best sport right now, we're still not a women's basketball school. The vast majority of our fan base would trade both women's national titles for an SECCG win.
What fans wish and what is reality are two different things. Ask anyone outside of Carolina fans, what is currently our flagship sports program, and women’s basketball will be at the top in their minds. We’re a women’s basketball program until the AD decides to make the same commitment to the men’s sports

I think there are a lot of fans who feel this way. It seems so obvious!!!

Could be; could be not; could be ephemeral.
