They were trying to game the system and hope for two B1G teams in the finals. TCU should have been #4 seed.

Didn't they do something similar the year before with Georgia and Bama?

I think more than gaming the system, they really just don't want a rematch, jmo.

I recall all the angst: they can't let a 2-loss Bama in over a 1-loss TCU, can they? I mean, 2 losses is more than 1 loss!

Now we know: a 2-loss SEC team is far, far better than a 1-loss Big 12 team.
I dont know what happened to TCU. I can only guess they choked miserably. Back before the teams were picked, I can remember wondering why TCU? Then I heard something about their supposedly crazy good SOS. I'm like well... ok then. Evidently, Uga was not impressed. Lol

Then I remember thinking, why Bama?
I had nothing. I think we had better wins than they did.

Not really. UGA was #1, I think Bama was #4 after winning SEC title. They kept TCU from dropping a single spot after losing their title game Whereas UGA dropped a spot
correction. Bama moved to #1, UGA fell to #3

A one loss Bama team jumped an undefeated Michigan team. As i said, it's a matter of opinion, and frankly unprovable, but I think they made sure uga wouldn't play Bama in a first round rematch.

Putting Cincinnati in last year was wrong too. That was nothing more than the committee caving in to the whining of the G5 reams about never getting in the playoff. Putting Notre Dame in in 2020 was a mistake, so was putting Ohio State in in 2020 after they only played 6 games that season.

Most years, there are really only two or three teams with a legitimate claim to being the "best". Expanding the playoff is a terrible idea.
Then the playoffs in all other collegiate football divisions should be contracted.

A true 16-team FBS playoff with the champions of all conferences getting an automatic bid, filling the balance with at-large teams, higher seed hosts until the championship game held at a neutral site and conducted completely outside the bowl structure would leave us arguing over who should have gotten an at-large bid.

Kanasa State of course would have represented the Big XII. Would TCU have gotten a bid "competing" against Ohio State, Alabama, Tennessee, etc?

But I imagine we would all be more interested in a playoff game between Clemron and Tennessee in either Neyland or Dung Valley rather than neutral Miami.

It's all about which conference that matters and the type of competition which factors in.
Clemson may never lose if they don't play outside the ACC - so it's is relevant to the conversation.
