MSU is the most likely SEC school with a different football coach next year.

and how can anyone not think Richt is precarious? And, hell, ball coach could die from old age on the sideline. And cheesedick could end up like sweatervest. Hell, who are these asshats trying to predict the completely unpredictable?

Having said that, Mullens will be hauling his yankee hot skinny mini and their progeny out of vegas soon enough. No use dwelling on it. Enjoy the fact that we now have an athletic administration that now understands where we are in the pecking order. We CAN attract quality assistants and within time, with continued success, we can start taking quality head coaches away from somebody.

I mean, since he's talking like he knows things.<div>
</div><div>It'd be too early to hire Hud, right? Diaz maybe? Weis? <-- totally joking.</div>

He did read a tweat from an MSU fan getting on him a little bit; and then stated that losing Mullen is a position we want to be in.

they aren't going to fire a coach after one year unless its an interim coach. He has also been recruiting extremely well for Vandy.

ppl talk about his background- but
1) He's been around, he knows the differences of the regions. This is where the best of the best reside- coaches and players. Not sure his ego will let him leave.
2)People said Penn St before- but I don't think people up north even know who he is...except in Michigan. MSU knows what we've got, the league knows what we got... the rest of the world not so much.
3) He's married with a young'un. The small town atmosphereis stereotyped to be better for families. Don't know if all that's true, but Megan sure does seem to talk it up.

With that said Georgia may make a run for him- I don't see anybody else in the near future on the hot seat. Now, once we've won the West and gone to aBCS bowl- his name will show up every year. But, we'll be competitive with most and only a handful of programs (I'd say less than 10) could lure him away. I'm not worried at all. And if it does happen, we'll just hire another qualified individual. (Hud or Diaz)

i think there are only 15 or so programs in the country that he would even consider leaving for. he's not gonna leave for an arguably marginal upgrade to somewhere like arizona or georgia tech or some crap, he'd only leave for an elite job. at this point he has msu headed in the right direction and he's paid a top 15-20 salary. why would he make a move to another non-elite program? given his salary and the conference and the facilities (small/lesser by sec standards, but look at other conferences), i don't think msu is so low on the totem pole that we are a stepping stone for other non-elite programs. and assuming the non-elite program that might come sniffing around would be coming off a poor season, i can't imagine him wanting to risk his rep in the eyes of the elite programs on another rebuilding job.<div>
</div><div>i don't think he's a msu lifer necessarily, but the talk of him going to somewhere like minnesota is ludicrous. when texas or penn st or usc or someone comes calling i'll get worried. until then, i'm unconcerned. of the elite programs, i think only uga, penn st, and ohio st are reasonably likely to be looking for a new coach this year (assuming jopa retires and/or richt sucks). and i don't even think mullen would go to ohio st right now until after their penalties are announced.</div>

Lets not have a "will Mullen leave/ where will he go" thread. There have been at least 30 since January.

..if Chuck Oliver on 680 The Fan in Atlanta says this is Mullen's last year @ MSU, then I have only one question:

Why isn't Strickland already out looking for a new head coach?

I mean, Chuck Oliver has spoken.

In your rushed attempt to have the most edgy and witty response, you failed to comprehend that he said MSU was the most likely school to be looking for a new head coach; not that they would be. I guess in your expert opinion, if the source isn't SI, it isn't credible.

Chuck is an Auburn homer who, as far as I can tell, despises all things Mississippi State. He seems like a bright guy, but I've never heard anything positive about MSU from him.

Chuck appears to be one of those guys who simply can't wrap his brain around the possibility that (a) little ol' Mississippi State might be building a solid program, and (b) we just might be able to come up with enough cash to keep Dan around for a few years.

How about we stop cooking stuff up on the slow news days. Mullen isn't going anywhere. End of story.

and he won six games in the first three seasons. The second one was fired because he was never going to be permanent. Johnson retired in August, so its not like they were going to get a legitimate replacement then. The only reason he will leave Vandy is if he gets a better job.
