Coastal just beat App State again. Hung 35 on em. They lead the SBC. Coach Chadwell won multiple conference championships by year 3 at North Greenville (D2) Charleston Southern (FCS) and now Coastal in FBS. They seem to be ready to win another SBC title now. They’re 35th in total offense. We are 99th Glad we didnt hire him haha we’ll just face him and his staff one day when they are at Auburn, Va Tech or somewhere

Thank God we don't play Coastal or Appalachian this year. They would kick our indecisive rear ends off the field!

We absolutely will have to….and it will hurt.
I still stand by that it would’ve been less risky to hire Chadwell and most of his offensive staff to come as a package when SB got the job. He’s gonna end up somewhere P5 in 2 months and they will be successful. Auburn is usually on the cutting edge /gambling to get guys….just like Miss. State, arkansas have been the last decade. Those three get it….their programs understand that they aren’t Alabama, LSu, Georgia….and will gamble on alternative offensive “systems” to stay competitive and relevant. Tennessee finally did that after 15 years of trying not to. Things have worked out.

Hate to tell you, but if you go back and look more of those alternative systems fail than not when they have to play an SEC team every weekend, but you can still dream!

Multiple P5 programs have had openings the last 2 seasons and Chadwell was not seriously linked to any of them. There must be a reason.

I’s take him as OC and let him choose the other offensive assistants.

I do wonder about that. They tend to rely on (albeit creative) option football. Maybe that fact alone makes people shy about pursuing him.

Oh, I didn't know they ran the option. I don't really watch them. In that case, no, I don't want him as our OC. But, yeah, there have been all kinds of jobs open the past 2 cycles, including P5 and higher profile G5 jobs that would have been a step up for him. Doesn't seem he was considered for anything. Maybe it is the option.

Didn't they have a stud QB of sorts? Is he still there?

We would have lost to Coastal in 2020, by 14+ probably. In 2022, Coastal and USC probably is a 4th qtr/overtime game. Our DL would give them problems. Their DC is VERY good at designing gameplans against great running teams, so they probably shut down our run game and force Rattler to beat em. I think Coastal wins it by 3 this year

Their system isnt that “alternative”, its very similar to what Auburn ran under Malzhan with Cam Newton, took em to 2 national championship games and 2 SEC titles. We remember 2010

They dont run an option offense, they have option plays from shotgun and a lot of their run plays are an RPO type play.

In his 3 yrs as a starter hes thrown for over 7,000 yards with 72 TDs and 7 ints. Thats NOT an “option offense”.

I think the reason is hes coached in the state of SC for 20 years. He has deep recruiting ties in this state but not so much nationally maybe. But FOR US, that would be huge. It was the perfect fit for us.

Well, let’s offer him OC. Show his offense can function at the P5 level. Then he can have any HC job he wants.

HC there to OC here is a step down he’d never take it. No one wants to admit it but Coastal has quickly caught up to us. His offense has worked at every level, and they’ve beat solid FBS teams with it.

They won the SEC in 2010 and 2013. Malzhan was HC for one and basically was their HC in 2010 w the OC title.

I dont think anything is really “alternative” now. But we currently run a totally traditional Pro Style and are atrocious so alternative cant be worse haha

Coastal has not "caught up" to us. They play an easy schedule and still got blown out by Old Dominion. Every SEC team we have played would beat them easily.

CC or App State would very likely hand us an L this season. We have more fancy toys and resources than both teams combined. The University just can’t capitalize. We can’t do more with less either.
Baseball fans may disagree with this next opinion. But I think we need an upgrade at the Athletic Director position. He is to lackadaisical. Happy-go-lucky. Suffers from retirement-itus. Another term that may fit is that Tanner is a ROD. Retired On Duty. He is a great fella’. He just needs to be in another position.

Neither would beat us, just like they didn't beat Old Dominion, James Madison or Texas St.
