Most of the Hot Dawgs (on both teams) never put their shoulder down, attempting to gain another 2 to 5 yards anymore but, rather run out-of-bounds. Hell, that Mizzou DB went into his slide, in the middle of the field, before any Carolina players were within 5 yards of him.

But, I will tell you what, watch the game replay and notice that on virtually every single play, some Hot Dawg is either fist pumping or running down field 40 yards while self-praising themselves for being involved (didn't necessarily MAKE-the-Play, just needed to be somewhere close by) so they can pull out their 'Little Boy Pretend Guns". It has gotten ridiculous!

That was my question...why do you care? More college football is always good.

I don't really attach achievement to a pair of 6-6 teams playing in Mobile, Alabama on the day after Christmas. If the teams want to play and someone wants to pay to have a game for them to show up to, I don't see that it hurts anyone.

But it is college football, and I tend to watch parts of most bowl games.

Because I don't agree that more college football is always good. Steak is good, but more of it isn't always good if the part that is more is also rancid.

However you can always leave the rancid steak in the fridge if you like, you don't have to put it on the grill!

If lower bowl games are rancid steak, then I like rancid steak and will eat it for you. I don't want less college football! I enjoy having random matchups all through December.

During Christmas time off, I love watching crap bowls, and bowls where entire teams have opted out. Maybe it'll change as more opt outs happen. But I still get excited for the latest bowls.

I also understand how some people can think that is nuts.

Intangibles will always be problematic but recognizable. College athletics needs a recognized framework under which to operate, regardless.

That's the thing with the crap bowls, you don't know who the players are so opt-outs really are irrelevant.

The New Year's Six bowls were the ones that were so negatively impacted by opt-outs.

Only generally. Take and attend the requisite number of courses/classes and meet certain academic standards.

Bobby Dodd, during his long tenure at Georgia Tech, hated the renewable aspect. He felt that the school should honour the scholly for four years (barring egregious behaviour, of course).

I guess until proven otherwise, I'll bet on Beamer's culture. Kennard was a good player at GT, but Beamer gave him a chance to shine in the SEC on the national stage, and he's blown up as a top DE. I'm going to believe he'll reciprocate and play to the end.

It truly disgusts me to even think about this, but the reality of it is steamrolling our way. If we're left out of the playoff, I fully expect the following to not play in the bowl:

During their 30 years in the SEC, Dodd would not schedule Ole Miss and Ole Miss state in football. The Rebels did make one visit to Atlanta in 1946, and the Jackets met the Rebels in the 1953 Sugar Bowl (many Sugar Bowl contests in those days featured two SEC teams as a way of avoiding racial integration).

I wonder if the Mississippi schools would have supported Dodd's stance had he agreed to begin scheduling them. But methinks Dodd had made up his mind to leave regardless, and convinced the AD and president of this.

I appreciate his principle, but in hindsight, it was a foolish athletic move.

Under the current system all that matters is the regular season and the playoff, bowl games have zero meaning and are just an exhibition. Play the guys that are projected to fill those opt-outs positions and move on. It is what it is until we have some kind of formal contracts.
