No, I am not Dave Jones, but in the link below he hits almost every point I posted over the last couple weeks.

I watched the video yesterday. I won't disagree with Jones about some of his comments, but even he thinks Rhoades would not have come here if it were not for a significant committment by PSU to basketball. A committment they have not made before.

I thought they would double Rhoades previous salary and sign him for $2.5.

The fact they went to $3 million, with escalators over 7 years, is good. The fact the numbers were released is evidence they knew they had to pay and be closer to market rate, and they knew they would face huge criticism if they weren’t.

As for their “commitment” Kraft now has to deal with NIL, facilities, and other budget issues. For 9 months he has failed to address these things in an adequate way. Now is his chance. Will Kraft be allowed to do the things to compete with the other B1G programs? The other B1G schools are not sitting still. He has a long way to go.

I like Rhoades as a coach. I don’t expect much for the next couple years. 5 or 6 wins in the B1G and a .500 out of conference record will be tough to achieve.

Dave Jones used to always rub me the wrong way with some of the questions he asked of Joe and the articles he wrote. Over time, I've mellowed a little and believe he's usually insightful, especially in his favorite sport, basketball. Other than Nate, I think Jones has the most insight to the program and his historical knowledge (34 years of covering the program) is valuable. He believes that next year is going to be a tough year, especially if we lose the 2022 recruiting class. Here's hoping we can those 5 kids and supplement with some excellent VCU transfers and a couple more from other programs.

He’s wrong about the Journey song. Its title is “Don’t Stop Believin’ “ …. not “Midnight Train”.

Kraft has two major issues to address. Of the two, NIL is second in importance. Karft indicated that he was going to "fix it." Presumably he thought he did, but he didn't. There has been a reset and the hope is that it now moves in a positive direction.

The King Kong issue is Beaver Stadium. Ms. Excellence basically stuck her head in the mud and focused on facilities that were never going to get funded, let alone provide a return. Indications are that something is in the works. My guess is that they know what they want to do, now have to figure out how to pay for it, not a trivial undertaking. Until there is meaningful movement on Beaver Stadium, there won't be much in the way of progress on other facilities.

As for budget issues, Kraft acknowledged what some of us here knew for years; that he inherited a bloated department. He fired five top-level, in salary and nothing else, administrators. I don't expect any further moves to make headlines. We'll see what he's done next February.

The video addressed basketball and issues related to basketball. There was no discussion of Krafts performance related to football, wrestling, baseball and other PSU sports and administrative matters. Jones criticized and complemented Kraft on his basketball related work performance.

I can understand how you would have trouble commenting upon and adding anything relevant to a thread you won’t entirely read or watch.

The first step to improvement is to stop making things worse (that is universal).
Time will tell.

Is there a trophy for "spending more money"?

If so, does it look anything like the Land Grant trophy? If so, hard pass.

Let me count the ways-

1. He has covered the basketball program for 30 plus years.

2. He’s not a cheerleading homer like so many other “reporters”.

3. He has attended more PSU basketball games than all but a handful of people.

4. He has spoken with all the people involved in the current program.

5. He has a knowledge of the game.

I know these things are difficult to understand for so many know-nothing, band jumping, PSU fans.

I wasn't responding to Jones's video. I was responding to your post, specifically the phrase "....Kraft now has to deal with NIL, facilities, and other budget issues." Nowhere did I see that limited to basketball. And even if it was, football overwhelms it. Everything takes second place. Basketball doesn't move forward until decisions are made on the arena and that doesn't happen until work on Beaver Stadium moves past the starting line.

Really? It’s not 1973. Amateur college sports is dead. If you want to compete in the current day you have to spend $, or (to paraphrase Joe Pa) you are going to leave D1 sports to the Miamis and Alabamas.

I dislike the system. I would be fine with it if the B1G said they were abandoning D1 and turning to an Ivy League like system. That ain’t going to happen. Too bad. You know why? Things are going to get worse.

True to form. Fail to admit your error, fail to come up with a coherent argument when confronted with fact, go to name calling. Rinse. Repeat in next thread.
No error to acknowledge, dipshit, and as long as you want to lead with your face, I'll be happy to oblige you.

You state you will not watch the video. You then choose to comment on a post without context. You are corrected. You choose to defend with another post, again ignoring your lack of context. Yet, you triple down with name calling and foolishness.

You have to be a pathetic little man with an incredible inferiority complex.

A .500 out of conference record is not acceptable. Look at this past year:
Winthrop
Loyola, MD
Butler
Furman
VA Tech
Colorado St
Lafayette
Clemson
Canisius
Quinnipiac
Delaware State

I hope I didn't miss anybody but PSU should be able to go 8-3 vs those type of opponents right off the bat.

You could add that he is the most wired in reporter, that he is a superior story teller and his columns generally have analagies that are spot on and beyond the imagination of the average PSU scribe.
Wired in and trusted by both O'brien and Shrewsberry. He was the one person both of those individuals called to provide reasoning and information realtive to their decisions to leave PSU. That fact alone speaks volumes.

1. Roger Ebert has covered movies for a million years, but that doesn’t mean he has any idea what movies I would like or not.
2. Being negative all the time doesn’t make you a better reporter, it makes you a sad little man who’s unhappy with his life choices.
3. My daughter attends all the UK football games, that doesn’t make her a football expert.
4. People in the program are probably very guarded about what they tell him due to his past treatment of the programs.
5. I’m quite sure I have a better knowledge of the game than he does. I’ve actually played it and coached it for many years.

I know these things are difficult to understand for anyone who puts their faith in Dave Jones as a reporter.

Since virtually every Penn State thinks David Jones is both an A S S hole and a fraud you most be either a complete troll, David Jones, or both. Which is it?

And no, I won't be clicking the link you posted.
No, not every Penn State fan hates Jones. Listen to the podcast. It’s nothing buy the truth. Much of the same things said on this on3 site.

Yes.... Reaper's post covers topics other than basketball....so what? I for one liked his post and glad he composed it. Not sure why you are so defensive in your replies....almost like you have a vested interest in Mr Jones. Shame we all can't act like College graduates and get along....and stop the grade school insulting simply because someone has a different view, or posts something slightly off topic. I feel just like Collegiate athletics....BWI has changed....all the advertisements blocking stories and content...all the character assassinations because someone disagrees... Yes i know.....welcome to the new world.

Chandler, what type of device do you use to access this site? If a computer (Microsoft or Apple software) you should add-on uBlock Origin. You actually have to add the software to each browser that you would like to block ads. Below is a video which will show you how to add the software to both Chrome and Firefox.

uBlock doesn't have an app for mobile devices so you'll need to load a new browser the device. There are several options that come with good ad blocking capability. Adblock Browser or Brave Browser are two decent options. Links below.

https://adblockbrowser.org/ You'll need to email them for the link to download
