Actually they weren’t. When UM went big PSU was out flanked and gave up big gaines
Not Perfect - but very solid…excellent tackling…best game of career by Kobe King…played well enough to win…and could have played even better if offense would have stuck with running game and ride Allen for 25-30 carries

They maybe did enough to win but I can’t really call it a good performance.. Michigan ran the ball every single play because our offense was comically bad. They knew our best chance to win was causing a turnover so why give us that opportunity? Even though we knew what was coming, they still ran for 230 (5ypc). Michigan could have put up 31+ that game if they wanted to. There’s maybe 3-4 teams in the nation that have/would have the upper hand against our D and Michigan is definitely one of them.

this year was very different from last year. we got pushed off the line last year and gashed. this year over 80% of the runs were held 4 yds or under. 6 of the runs represented 70% of the entire run game. the last TD after the failed 4th down failure late in the game was the equivalent to a turnover. It also took Manny some time to realize that UM was going to run in long yardage situations. QB sweep on 3rd and 10.

When UM came out in heavy did you see any adjustments? Then they ran it down out throats
They scored 10 points in the second half. 7 of which were immediately after Franklins moronic decision on 4th down.

I think stylistically PSU does not match up well with UMs rushing attack, but I thought they held their own.

they did hold their own. the moronic decision to go on 4th down at your own 30 was the equivalent of a turnover. the 30 yd run was in sudden change. if you take off the 4 best runs from UM, the rest of their runs avg was 2.3 ypc. we were no pushed around. on the Edwards TD in the 2nd QTR, the MIKE LB was too slow to get to fill the gap. that had nothing to do with getting bullied. most of their runs the LOS was not moving forward.

But that was part of the problem. Once again defense plays great except for a few killer big plays. I think Diaz has done a great job but gets burned by calling blitzes too often in 3rd and long as for example the quick slip screen to the small WR before their first TD.

…but hung out to dry be pass game and Franklin.

Best and hardest tackling I have seen from a PSU defense in a long time.
They look like a top 4 unit, confident, coordinated, nasty. A pleasure to watch. Shows it’s possible for State

When I first started Pop-Warner back in 5th grade my coach put me at outside linebacker and taught me that when a running QB comes out on a bootleg the first priority was to take out the QB. I was told to either make him throw the ball or preferably put him on the ground. How many times did our outside leave him to make the critical first down while backing up to cover someone? No correction, all game long. I told my buddy during at the start of the half that a correction would come we'd shut that down but I'm still waiting.

When the ball is thrown 7 things can happen and 5 of them are good for the defense. When a running qb is given an open field only one thing is going to happen and it's bad for the defense. I was 10 years old when my coach taught him this.

Note: In pop-warner all qb's are running qb's so no distinction was necessary.

sorry this is not anything like you describe. they were out flanked and did not adjust to the wing side they had 5 guys and we had 4 on the back side we were overloaded!! How many 3 and outs did this D produce?

watch the back side, the missed tackles are due to poor fundamentals

again we are not sound to the long side

The two big games on the schedule showed that this team was overhyped on both sides of the ball. Same old, same old. What I don't get is how many here are perfectly happy with playing second fiddle to OSU and Michigan. They just accept that Penn State will never compete with either. Just fine and dandy.
