We've been together for 5 years married for 3. I was incredulous when she confided to me that this was the first time she's ever voted ... for anything. She moved around a lot when her ex was in the military. She said they make it super easy for soldiers to vote, but civilians not so much. I don't think she's implying they made it more difficult. I didn't dig into the issue, for she was a little ashamed for not having done so.

We have similar opinions, beliefs, thoughts on the roles of government, freedoms of people, etc, but we're not one mind.

As somebody that has canvassed and done phone banks for Democratic candidates in a previous life, I can tell that in my experience, it was usually the reverse. It was the husband that was the Republican and the wife was a secret Democrat.

We are pretty moderate, we have voted the same, and also voted differently. I do respect her enough to not get too upset when we disagree, and I learned that I wasn't going to be able to change her mind. I will say this to her credit : she only voted for obama 1 time
