With valentines day coming up, just putting a question out there other than the usual "where did you first meet your spouse" or "how did you propose"?

I knew a girl in high school that I liked, it took me 6 months before I could work up the courage to ask her out(I had no confidence in myself back then) she said no, she had just started dating another guy. Hurt at the time but ended up being the learning experience I needed to ask the next girl out(my now wife😁).

The first time I asked a girl out it was no. So I learned from that experience and figured out what the do the next time to get a yes. Got a lot of yesses after that first time. Mainly I would say to anyone "just be yourself" and not someone you will never be. You will be surprised how far that will take you.

You guys needed to send someone else to do the dirty work first. The rule is you talk to the best friend first to gauge what the response would be. If she tells you it’s a hard pass (because she’s dating someone else or you’re just not her type), you just move on.

My first attempt was a 'yes'. Well, first REAL attempt...I'm not counting that massive whiff when I was 11.

On a side note: you can't go wrong with this line as your ice-breaker. Simply walk up to a girl, hold out your drink and ask; "Excuse me, but does this taste like roofies to you?"

My first attempt as a guy with a car and some means of taking her somewhere resulted in a yes. Many teenage girls in the 80s were just dying to get out of the house.

I honestly can't remember. Looking back though, I've been fortunate and had a very good success rate (like Mark Price shooting free throws good!).

Eight grade triple date....lol...she said yes. But, for four more years of school we never spoke again. I guess I was mad she shook my hand goodnight.

How could she turn down a man about town……much less a future Rooster?

Besides the date included a concert, Bo Diddley, We Five & the Byrds.😎

The first girl I asked out (8th grade) surprisingly said yes. Since I assumed she would say no, I got so nervous and anxious because I had no idea where we would go or what we would do. We ended up going to a matinee movie because I couldn't drive at night yet.

First time I asked a girl for a real date it was "no". I was 14 and my sweaty armpits didn't help the negotiation process.

During my early 20s there was older girl I dated a couple of times who was absolutely stunning with red hair and green eyes. I asked her many times and acted the fool before she said yes and we dated a few times. The chase was the exciting part. We didn't officially break-up - we just both knew we were happier with each other as friends.

My wife hit on me in church for several months before we went on a date. Now we have 5 granddaughters together.

Third grade. New girl just moved in a week before valentine's day. Big day came and I put a box of those little candy hearts on her desk before she got in. Class started. She stood up, walked to my desk, laid the box of candy on it and walked away. Right in front of everyone. Yeah, that didnt go well. lol

She said nothing that I could understand…just mumbled something. Then I asked a bud if he’d help me pick her up off the dance floor.

I dont remember the first one but Valentines Day still brings back bad memories of VDay, 1993, when my fairly serious girlfriend of 10 months dumped me on Valentines Day. I was 6 weeks from turning 23 and Had NO IDEA it was coming and never got much of an explanation. Broke my heart but looking back? THANK GOD IN HEAVEN I didnt end up married to that little witch. Met the one a few years later and still with her today. Dont see either of us going anywhere. Stuck.

I'll say three things. (1) She said yes. (2)She was older and very pretty. (3) She wound up crushing my heart to powder.

In romance, you need to be careful what you wish for. There was a girl I dated a little later on that I never forgot or completely got over. But I know that she was not God's best for me and that the lady to whom I've been married for 52 years is. All my happiness, humanly speaking, I owe to her.

I'll also add something I heard almost 40 years ago. Falling in love is not a good idea (i.e., you lose control and don't think logically). Grow to love your spouse. Obviously, you have to have a comparable value system to get started, and chemistry to keep it going. Grow to love and appreciate your spouse.

H Scott Peck wrote "The Road Less Traveled". Other than the Bible, I often go to that script for a reminder of a short six word phrase that changed my view of life.

"Love is an act of will."

Not romance, not sex, not some fleeting, fascinating high. Find someone you "want" to love because you know they understand the aforementioned statement. Then work toward toward true love together.

That's what it finally comes down to. People's imperfections dictate that.

Third grade? You must have failed 1st and 2nd grade three or four times each.

She said, “Yes”. It was my first time but not hers. When we finished she looked at me and said, “You’re the biggest I‘ve ever had.” I didn’t know what to say. Apparently “Ditto” wasn’t a good answer.

I read that the average man has sex 89 times a year. That being the case, tomorrow I’m gonna have one helluva good day.
