For me, it does somewhat and this recent event raises some questions on his ability to recruit. Mullen was Laptop Thief's coach for 1 1/2 years and yet the kid didn't want him as a coach again. The kid shopped around and around until he found something better. I feel he didn't want play under Mullen unless it was his only option at a BCS/SEC school (Kansas doesn't count). This seems odd to me...very odd.
In the case of Laptop Thief, there were NO HS connections to be made. Mullen lost this straight up...and didn't get the job done selling him self or his program.
This years recruiting class is sub par and croomish. I don't have a good feeling we will land any of the uncommitted prospects left on our plate. This year we haven't attracted any recruits that are highly regarded. To me Eulls is an MSU guy regardless of the coach.
I have serious concerns about his and his staff's ability to recruit. Hopefully, this will be a learning experience for him and he improves. In the end, this knocks Mullen down a few notches in the eyes of the SEC.
