Received it yesterday. So I moved my contribution from NIL to the BC. Anyone on this forum have any thoughts on it...whether or not it was the right move or does it make any difference.

Undecided for now. My fear is Excellence Fund donations will be used to meet our obligations under the settlement, while Bulldog Initiative donations would be in addition to those obligations.

I'm not going to continue with the excellence fund. Not my place to pay college athletics reparations, nor to support poor leadership. They want your money, but don't give a **** about what you want as fans. They've completely turned their backs on the fans.
My view is the financial settlement obligations should come from the general athletic dept revenues and NOT from my donations. I'm OK donating to something in addition to the settlement obligations. But when you're pulling in over $100,000,000 per year in revenue, you can pay the damn settlement from that.

Think about this, our president has been stealing from athletics for years. Now our money will be controlled by those people too. Who's to say he doesn't take from your donations? And you can't get points for BI, only giving to that one fund. Screw that!

I trust Charlie with my donation a lot more than I trust Selmon & Keenum.

That's the problem I have. I haven't made a dime from msu athletics. I have spent plenty on bulldog club tickets hotels gas etc etc to attend games over the years. It's not my job to fund college athletes. Nil was supposed to be name image likeness not salaries for players. University is the one that made money businesses in and around d Starkville made money. To me they are double and triple dipping the fans and I'm about done with college sports. It's a ****** knock off of pros. Pros have more money rules and don't ask fans for donations. We buy products and merchandise for the nfl.

I've gotten the impression from the beginning that the Excellence fund was set up for the sole purpose of paying the settlement, and new payroll. Any additional donations (over that $40-50mil) would go to nil opportunities.

Although our revenue is up to $120ish million now, our expenses are damn near that. So there really isn't any extra revenue for State or any other schools to pay these newly created expenses. A $40-50 million expense hit is huge!

So Selmon and MsU are between a rock and a hard place. All you can do is ask for more money and cut a lot out of expenses from the budget for 25-26. I see a lot of bus trips from our athletic teams.

Between this crap and the crazy conferences thanks to football with crazy travel expenses I see a lot of sports going under at schools unless a wealthy alumni really likes that sport and funds it. What college football has become has largely ruined college sports for most everyone.

Fans: We like the interlocking logo for football. It looks great, reminds us of a great time in our lives and we really like to be able to find and wear that on our hats and shirts. Also, we want to get a better sound system and LED lights because it we be fun and engaging for us and our kids. You know, so we can be entertained with our entertainment dollars.

MSU: Ha. No. Here’s the same thing that we have been giving you since the 80’s. Come to the game or don’t. Two changes we did make were we doubled concession prices and put an effeminate logo on the helmets. Also, we went ahead and blew away your lot you have been parking in so we will put you on a list. If something comes open we will call you. Just for fun we will randomly change your ingress and egress routes for every few games too. HAIL STATE!!!

I’ve decided to throw all my NIL money into a class of 2032 kid. Dual sport athlete (baseball and basketball) who has his heart set on being a bulldog.

And we went ahead and took away "Another T" while we're at it. It doesn't really matter, but we need to drill into you that we are in charge. Your opinion is **** on our loafers

Here is a link to look up most schools athletic income statement.

https://knightnewhousedata.org/fbs/sec/mississippi-state-university

I don't see an extra $40-50 million on anyone's income statement. Maybe there is a lot of frivolous expense in there that can be cut.... but most of these expenses seem necessary to me.

I think you'll have many schools drop to D2 (to avoid the payrolls) or go bankrupt by 2030.
I was just poking around on that site after reading through this thread. Pretty slick and interesting. I've seen you say 40 to 50 a few times on the settlement and curious where you're getting that number from? I thought the numbers were 20 to 22?

I don’t know how many employees we have in the athletic department, but I think that the $41M annual budget for coaching/staff salaries is worth questioning

Edited to add: And my point here isn’t as much about MSU as it is about FBS schools in general making a whole lot of people pretty well off for pretty piss poor results

A lot of those expenses have to do with non-revenue sports which will likely get hammered by this, and in fairness should. They should be treated more like club sports.

But a lot of those expenses are just what we spend to keep up with the arms race since we had a lot of money that we couldn't officially use to compete for athletes. A lot of those expenses can't just be shut off, but some of them can be and over time they can be greatly reduced. We are probably going to need some money to transition but the athletic department is going to have to drop the hammer and slim up for that to make sense. And it's also a challenge because it's not clear where everything is headed. We currently have to have a certain amount of scholarships to stay DI, and it's not clear how Title IX is going to impact everything. So athletic departments aren't going to want to make cuts and in particular lay people off, but that's what's going to have to happen unless there is a very large and unexpected change in the landscape.

ETA: $16M in other expenses, $17M plus in non-coaching athletics staff. $25.86M in Facilities, Debt Service, and Equipment, which is also where they put G&A. Really depends on how much of that $26M is debt service versus the rest, but you can probably get $10M out of those categories. Then throw $5.28M in Excess Transfers Back. Then you have another $61M in spending to cut anothe $4M of, some of which should cut itself as presumably some athletic student aid will be replaced by straight pay.

Not going to be fun for the people in the athletic department, but seems doable.

I have great admiration for Charlie for taking on the NIL business and absolutely trust him. It's an ever changing fluid scenario and it seems to me that consolidation of the effort is in the best interest of all.
