Gig em. Elko was the best choice.
Elko has been a good pick since at least he was at Wake Forest. It’s just most recently that he was a head coach. He does well everywhere he goes and he and Robinson recruit lights out.I actually think Stoops would have been a solid choice. He's built UK into a 7-8 win team at a school that absolutely does not care about football. While a modest rise, he has elevated UK's status in the SEC from afterthought to somewhat competitive. We can hardly remember when UK was one of the games we counted on each year as a win, going 16-4 against them over 20 years?
It's odd to me that the A&M fans were riled up about Stoops but totally ok with Elko, even though he only has a 2-year track record.
Neither one is a splash hire, but both would be solid hires, in my opinion.

I was surprised Stoops got the mention honestly.
A&M versus USC is on November 2 in 2024. The schedule is out.
Stoops need to donate 1/2 of his paycheck to USC. We simply imploded, then hired a LOSER, and it secured UK 1 win over the course of 7 years that he profited off of. If for no other reason, Beamer will be a f-ing legend for ending that stupid, ridiculous trend of losing to that group of hillbillies.I actually think Stoops would have been a solid choice. I’m a USC fan and have a bias. I don’t care for Mark Stoops. He seems a little petty, but I recognize he might be a good coach. This is why I like college football. Things like this. All very similar. Stoops was successful in his assistant stops before taking over UK and elevating them from afterthought status in the SEC.
All coaching hires a roll of the dice, but even more so when they only have a couple years on their track record. I think Elko is a fine choice but don't see him as being highly advantageous compared to Stoops.

This morning at work there was a college football discussion, which is a rarity where I work. There was an Ohio State alum there. We were talking ACC and SEC football and she piped up about Ohio State. We kind of looked at her then continued with our discussion of the ACC. It made me chuckle inside.
