Even though I'm a Philly guy. Sidney Crosby might be my all time favorite Hockey Player....

While growing up I favored Gretzky and Lemieux since they were the unbelievable talents and stars. Loved players like Brian Propp and Yzerman from Detroit as well. When the Flyers were awarded Lindros's draft rights it became him. But when I lived in Pittsburgh and even after moving back to Philly, Crosby has always been outstanding on and off the ice. He seems like a genuine nice young man and an even greater role model for future athletes. Just my two cents, I was curious if any the old-heads on the board appreciate Sid the Kid..

Pittsburgh has been very lucky to have Lemieux and Crosby back to back and for them to be exclusively Penguins. I know a couple of Washington Capitals players and I asked what they thought about Crosby and it was universal respect; said he's a super nice guy, works and plays hard, and is a tremendous competitor.

Yes, truly one of the nicest guy in any sport. The stories about how he has treated younger players, fans, staff, the media, etc. are legendary. His work ethic is also unmatched. He is as special a person as he is a player. The NHL really couldn’t have had a better role model.

Hated Propp. I’m still waiting for somebody to slash his hand while doing that stupid glove off goal celebration. Drove me crazy.

As a Pens fan, my first memories of following hockey were the Lemieux, Jagr, Barrasso Stanley Cup years. I guess I was spoiled from the start. Then they hit rock bottom and there were the rumors that they may leave Pittsburgh…until Mario saved them. That rock bottom got them Crosby and what a ride it has been. One of the coolest things the Pens do is that they have the players deliver the tickets to the homes of the season ticket holders. I’ve seen videos of Crosby knocking on doors and delivering tickets. He seems genuinely happy and appreciative of the opportunity to meet the fans. He’s a tremendous talent and will go down as one of the best. I have a bunch of Flyers fans as friends who can’t stand him, but one time one of them admitted they wished he was on the Flyers and how good he is. That was the ultimate compliment.

He is under appreciated and an all time great. Knowledgeable hockey fans recognize him as the best all around player in the game. Some guys can score but don’t play defense and back check like he does. Anyone who bad mouths his game either doesn’t know hockey or refuses to recognize how good he is. His assist game is unsurpassed.

Mario never took a dive, Cindy does it often
OMG, about as far from the truth as you can get. I have watched Sid his entire career and not sure I have seen any player work through more holds, hooks, slashes, etc. and somehow keep his feet and get a shot off. And what’s with “Cindy”? Your own little childish way to put down someone who has done so much for so many?

Pengoons hockey hangs by a thread….the franchise will likely die a slow but then sudden death as Letang, Malkin and then Crosby call it quits.

Hogwash. Penguins are the best franchise in Pittsburgh, the best in the NHL, and one of the best in all of sports.

Add to it all the things that don't end up on video like how he spends a lot of time at Children's Hospital cheering up the kids. A reporter in the scrum on Friday tried to ask Sid about the criminal charges for the five Canadian players that were filed this week and Sid said that it wasn't the place to answer but he'd happily have a private conversation about it. After the scrum, he did that 1-on-1. Too many athletes would have given a canned answer and moved on, similar to what Bettman gave. As you said, us Penguins fans have been incredibly spoiled by the talent we've watched in this organization over 40 years, even with the Dark Ages in the early 2000s. It's pretty crazy to see him performing at near-peak ability at his age, which is something that every All-Star who was asked this weekend (including that putz Tom Wilson) marveled about in their interviews.

Tom Wilson should have been kicked out of the league years ago.

No players playing in this era have dealt with more holds, hooks, slashes than even the worst players from previous eras. Crosby is a hell of a player, but that stuff is nowhere near what it used to be.

Pitchers and catcher 2 weeks!
The Pittsburgh Pirates finished 4th in the NL Central in 2023 with a record of 76-86, 16 games out of first place.

Pirates ownership sucks. Tough to win when your owners aren’t willing to spend money to win. The Phillies are way more fun to watch. It’s too bad, Pittsburgh has a rich baseball history.
