It's not so much the desperate plea for money from Penn State, it's more about the company they chose. It seems that the sleazy PSU Board of Distrustees chose a company as sleazy as themselves. Call me shocked. 
The negative optics and understandable public ridicule emanating from naming your home field after a questionable bathroom remodeler are simply inexcusable. It's apparent that PSU's BOT doesn't think..... they're individually and collectively stupid.
Let's read some reviews about the "craftsmanship" affiliated with West Shore Home and let's first start with their home state of Pennsylvania. You might have already been one of their victims.

Per Yelp...2.3 stars out of 5. That's not good.
Just had them for a quote of a full bathroom remodel, as I had requested through Angi. They arrived telling me they only do the tub and plumbing, nothing else. They quoted the same amount for half the job as another quote I had for doing the whole bathroom. Frustrating waste of time.

I was very disappointed with the final product considering the cost West Shore Home charged. The quality of work could have been better. Had a follow-up to replace the header due to the original header incurred damage during the install. When cutting out the drywall, uneven cuts, thus when the caulking was done, it let a mess. I eventually repaired and re-caulk the edges myself, instead of having them come back out. When I take showers, I have to use a towel to dry up water from the floor, due to the shower doors being uneven and not staying closed

Very dishonest salespeople! I was very misled about both the product and the warranty. When they called to see if I was happy, and I told them I was not and asked to speak to the Sales Manager.....guess who didn't call! Their customer service is horrible...Once they get your money, you will never hear from them again.
I would never recommend them to anyone.

Well, that (alleged) lack of customer service, poor attention to detail, and overpaying for the job done would fit in perfectly with the PSU BoT.
Too bad they didn’t get an offer from Black Rifle Coffee. Black Rifle field would be so much better.
We do not know if there was a formal bidding process....most likely not as everything was kept a secret per BOT MO!

Pretty sure smoking would lead to thinking about alternate realities. There's a difference between alternative actions, and ignoring what actually happened, and pretending something else happened ... the latter is what you're engaging in.
Here you go ... if you're confident your plan to just snap your fingers and have half the alumni toss money at a renaming, organize it. Bring in oodles of committed cash to rename Beaver Stadium as JoePa Stadium. See if the BoT turns it down. Don't just sit there watching life actually happen, and then snidely whimper that you could have done better. Do it.
