Looking like Rhule will flip the #1 QB in the country from Georgia (Dylan Raiola), and they're hosting Kyle McCord and Julian Fleming. They also have a top 25 class for 2024.

Not surprised. I think his uncle is the OL coach at NU.

It also helps when you give Uncle Donovan a $175,000 salary increase.

"Donovan Raiola received a salary bump to $500,000 from $325,000, and is now signed through the 2024 season. Raiola is the only holdover on coach Matt Rhule’s staff from the Scott Frost regime."

Where is nebby getting the money? That’s a sh|tload of corn.
Warren Buffet's company sold a boat load of securities this past year and they are in Nebraska, just sayin'. I have no idea if there is any connection but.....taking tin foil hat off now.😁🤷‍♂️

There is a lot to sell at Nebraska football. About the only major challenge is the lack of a rich natural recruiting base (especially since they left the old Big Eight)
The advent of the free-agency system (portal) might very well help Nebraska more than anyone - if they do it right. The portal essentially gives coaches a second bite at the recruiting apple - selling to kids who are a bit older, and probably more pragmatic wrt where they go for their "second program".

Lovely town but not much else to do in Lincoln.
Was out for NCAA women’s VB 1st round. Liked Haymarket area, would have liked to see more/eat more. Had great shirts … “Iowa has bad corn,” “Build a wall and make Iowa pay for it.”

And they’re not getting McCord or Fleming… they’re on fire!

They probably got the best outcome all things considered.
Rhule is going to continue to shop our typical recruiting areas but I'm not sure they have the NIL money to close the deals with the recruits to get them to corn country.

Rhule will get Nebraska turned around if they give him the time. He wil mold that team into what Nebraska fans like a strong running game with a good defense.

I was listening to a sports radio show a couple of days ago, and the guest was a writer that covers Nebby football. He said that they can raise the NIL money to be competitive with anyone. If true there’s more money in soybeans, corn, alfalfa and hogs than I ever imagined.

I don't know about that, but I do know Nebraska:

When they wanted to build a new facility for football (and other stuff) - a facility 3X bigger than the Lasch Building, at a cost of ~$160 Million (PSU has spent $100 Million in recent renovations to Lasch, FWIW, almost all of it via Debt) - they went out and raised the money from donors.
They raised 1/2 - then broke ground and started construction while they raise the rest. that facility is now up and running. They had raised ~$120 M before they even cut the ribbon.

They are also looking at major renovations to their football stadium (in many ways mirroring the "rumored" :) possible Beaver Stadium renovations)
Their potential price tag? $450 M. They are in the process of raising that money now - and will adjust plans down if they can't do that (but past history says they will raise the bulk of it from donors)
PSU? Rumored $700 M - to be "paid for" via debt. Not aware of any "capital campaigns" planned to raise the money first. Time will tell.

All in all, Nebraska has a solid recent history of being able to get their boosters to sign checks.

How will that carry over to NIL? Who knows? Of course, NIL as we know it (in its current incantation - which changes by the week) is likely dead within the next year or two.

They have no discos or pro teams to distract them. Wait, neither does Penn State. Maybe they are weak on the graft game there in OmaLincoln?

They have a football coach with intelligence, skill and an ability
Because there is absolutely nothing else to do in that god forsaken state and surrounding states for that matter. Captured audience.
Sort of like State College, Bellefonte, Lock Haven, Williamsport, Lewisburg and Sunbury. When the closest metro area of any size within two hours is Harrisburg, you might as well retire at 21.

How so? I'd say the qb outlook for 2024 is as gloomy as this past season and the league is only going to get tougher. Freshmen qb's don't work. On top of that, they are now pinning their hopes on a kid who attended 4 high schools and made 3 college commitments.

And is the top QB in the class. I assume they’d rather not have him? They’re not playing for ‘next year’ - this is about laying a foundation for program building.

Well, not really. The STATE of Nebraska offers nothing from a sports standpoint. Absolutely, nothing! All they got is Nebraska football. Your analogy is a stretch at best.

I don't know if it is such a stretch. James Carville described Pennsylvania as "Pittsburgh and Philadelphia with Alabama in between". We have had the citizens of Central PA described as "deplorables" and people who "hug their guns and their bibles." In a place where the first day of deer season is a holiday it is not like the area is a cultural hot bed or center of athletic achievement.

Oh, there is a shltload of money in those commodities. They don't exactly create a lot of bonafide NIL opportunities, but who's quibbling over bonafide.

OK, one more time - Nebraska as a STATE offers nothing but Nebraska football. That is all I am saying. Pennsylvania offers Penn State, Pitt, Steelers, Eagles, Phillies, Sixers, etc. Nebraska nothing but Cornhusker football. This is why they have large turnouts at games. Come on. It's really not that hard to grasp. No need to bring James Carville into the discussion. Although he is correct.

I just Googled famous Nebraskans and I came up with quite a list -

Athletes: Bob Gibson, Gale Sayers, Richie Ashburn, Grover Cleveland Alexander, Dave Rimington, Johnny Rogers,

Actors: Marlon Brando, Henry Fonda, Hillary Swank, Montgomery Clift, Fred Astaire

Entertainers: Johnny Carson, Dick Cavett

Public Figures: Malcom X, Crazy Horse, William Jennings Bryan

Others: Willa Cather, Warren Buffet

Not a bad list for a place of nothingness.
