I'm in agreement with those who believe that, if we are to get rid of changing our clocks back-and-forth, that making standard time permanent is the wiser of the two choices. Commuting to work and, especially, to school in the dark is known to be a hazard. In the modern day, we have the means in our houses to deal with a sun that rises early in the morning during the summer; but, we cannot do much about a sun that rises after the work/school commute in the winter.

You can change your work, school, etc start time. That's exactly what you're doing when you change the clock.

Sunrise doesn't change and our routine can just adapt as the relative time of sunrise changes.
More accurately, the amount of daylight in a given day doesn't change. The time of the sunrise does change depending on whatever time we want to call it.

Maybe I am reading it incorrectly, but I understand his time examples and I think he is correct.

Actually, his examples make it apparent to me that we should keep things the way they are - switching back and forth twice a year. I wouldn't like the sun rising at 8:30 am in the winter (if we were on year round DST) and I wouldn't want the sun rising at 4:40 am in the summer (if we were on year round Standard Time).
They are just trying to eliminate the change clock backs in the fall. That is what they are looking at and it is a dumb idea. I actually rely on the sun I. The winter to help heat my restaurant. The sun comes up and heat the metal roof. We are on stilts in the south 9 feet above ground and the hvac can only do so much since we do not have any ground heat. In fact the cement underneath makes it colder. So we would have to open up at 9 or later instead of 745 am for the winter. That sucks!!

My point is that time is relative when broken into 24 hours. Why not have everyone align their times and we just adjust. We have trained ourselves to wake up at 6:00 AM (or whatever) and we could train ourselves to wake up hen the clock says 3:00 PM. I’d suggest that we move to a 24 hour system as opposed to two 12 hour half days.

Scientific consensus is that using standard time is the best choice and using daylight savings time is the worst choice, even worse than switching back and forth, as it screws up our natural circadian rhythm, leading to adverse effects on cognition, mood and cardiovascular health. We tried permanent dst once before in the 70s and it failed.

I totally agree with the switching back and forth. What is the science that says standard is better than daylight?

No. AASM says “current evidence best supports the adoption of year round standard time which aligns best with human biology and provides benefits for human health and safety”.
Nohow...4 stella's and I can fall asleep at anytime....I will volunteer if AASM wants to do a study!

So, if science says standard is better, why did the idiots in DC go with Daylight in their bill?
