I linked this mainly because of the headline. What is more newsworthy - that the man beheaded his father or that he's a Penn State alumnus? Man, post-Sandusky the media loves to lay it on PSU, or so it seems. Yahoo Canada no less. It does dovetail with the whole overpriced PSU tuition/student loan burden thing though.

In Philly, it's likely the beheading...but that article was from Centre County, where people are likely interested in the PSU connection.

The good news is we let the conspiracy theory freaks think that this is normal and they are "victims". I know...thoughts and prayers...mental health....etc....yada, yada, yada.

True, but it's odd that the story is from Yahoo News Canada - base url - https://ca.news.yahoo.com/. This is the second time I've seen them pick up something Centre County related. Maybe they have an agreement with the CDT.

Even stranger is that calls were placed to Penn State. Perhaps the writer was merely looking for background, but, if so, why mention that the calls were not returned.

That's true. I saw multiple headlines about the incident earlier today, from Philadelphia area newspapers. None of then included Penn State in the headline, and since the incident didn't really interest me, I didn't click on any of the links to read the story.

The only bright side to this is that these are usually the guys that choose the mass shooting route.
You would hope that his previous behavior would make him a candidate for very close scrutiny, but apparently not.

They’d probably wondered about their son for a long time. Odds are he threatened them to their faces sometime previously. I’ve been rendered sleepless with worry many a time but nothing compared to this.
Happened in Upper Orchard.

Unbelievably disturbing. The story gets worse and worse.

Onset of schizophrenia in men typically is late teens to early twenties. I am wondering if he would have developed his delusions whether he was taking LSD or not. Hallucinogens causing temporary psychosis facilitates the transition to schizophrenia by as much as 25%., but he was at the right age to begin with. LSD and other hallucinogens would be expected to exacerbate symptoms.

So are we to understand that Mohn had been diagnosed as being schizophrenic some time ago, well before the murder?

From what I’ve seen, no, he hadn’t been diagnosed schizophrenic. It’s just what people are saying now, just in an attempt to have it make sort of horribly twisted sense.

Just speculation on my part. His delusions sound very much like those of a paranoid schizophrenic. A dual diagnosis that includes drug abuse wouldn't shock me either.
