Restaurant business is a mess right now. DC is struggling with the passage of 'I-82' which mandates restaurants pay employees a higher hourly wage and to compensate them for the difference between the wage and tips to equal the standard hourly wage in DC, and to increase the minimum wage for all workers to the full minimum for DC by 2027. Restaurants are in turn passing this additional cost to customers directly as a 'service charge'. I think there is momentum with many states to move to pay higher wages and restaurant owners are just passing the bill to customers, who in turn deduct the fee from tips. Wonder how long this will last....?
