FC/OT: Caleb Williams won’t declare for draft unless Chicago promises to trade pick.

So now players think they can dictate to an NFL team what they should do with their draft picks?? I miss the good old days when players would suck it up, get drafted by a team they don't want to play for, pose with a jersey on draft day, then throw a tantrum.

Washington would 100% take Williams at #2 were he available. Williams played hs at DC Gonzaga.

It doesn’t matter what I think about this. And, as has been pointed out, it’s not new. If you’re going to skip the draft, fine, but frame it as a reflection of your love and loyalty for your team, like Quinn Ewers did. Then the old farts like me wouldn’t be all up in arms about this, the world would be a better place.

not really he can always enter the supplemental
It’s not automatic. You can sit out the draft but that doesn’t mean you can snap your fingers and get your name in the supplemental draft just like that.

He can always flunk out of school. Can't imagine that would be too difficult.
I'd wonder if getting a 0.0 this semester would be enough to flunk out and be declared ineligible for the fall (even if he wanted to try that route).

I am sure Caleb will get his way.....

Which players are eligible for the NFL supplemental draft?

If a player was eligible for the previous year's NFL draft, but did not declare, then they are eligible for the NFL supplemental draft.

Players have often entered the supplemental draft after dealing with unexpected issues that impact their eligibility for the ensuing college season. These have included — but are not limited to — academic ineligibility, suspensions due to failed drug tests, impermissible benefits and failure to declare for the NFL draft before the appropriate deadline.

Friendly deans and department heads have been known to keep athletes eligible. If USC wished to accommodate Williams, I'm sure they could wash him out. You think the NFL is going to ask for his transcript?

Yeah, this has been happening for decades. Not sure when you started paying attention to the NFL draft?

Not quite. The Athletic summarizes it succinctly and correctly:

"The Supplemental Draft is for draft-eligible players who didn’t enter the NFL Draft but are unable to return to college football the same year."

Sure. Maybe Arizona would have been a better team to say. Just one with a losing tradition; Chicago is historically a good franchise.
I was playing this game myself and fishing for the right team to mention. Arizona works.

Thanks. I wasn’t quite up to speed on the nuances. Yeah, flunking out seems to be a means to an end here.

Why would he assume they are picking him? I don’t think he is better than Fields. The Bears should take Harrison Jr and use their second 1st round pick to address other needs. They have plenty.
If Williams is as good as Fields, it is a no-brainer to take Williams. You restart the clock back to a rookie QB contract for your franchise. You now have much more money under the salary cap to rebuild the remainder of your team.

Personally, if I were the Bears, I would take Maye.

Maye = Trubisky 2.0

You’d take a guy that doesn’t want to be there? Ask the Flyers how that turned out.
