FC/OT: Caleb Williams won’t declare for draft unless Chicago promises to trade pick.

Sure. Maybe Arizona would have been a better team to say. Just one with a losing tradition; Chicago is historically a good franchise.
And the Cardinals have a much greater losing tradition than Cleveland. The Browns have won 4 NFL Championships since the Cardinals last one.

Why would he assume they are picking him? I don’t think he is better than Fields. The Bears should take Harrison Jr and use their second 1st round pick to address other needs. They have plenty.
I'm a Bears fan and this is what I'm hoping for. They might even be able to trade back 1-2 spots and still get MHJ, and stockpile some picks. MHJ, DJ Moore and Fields is one hell of a core to build around. If Olu is still there at 9 (doubtful) the Bears will take him too as they really need OL help. Caleb is a talented QB but I just don't like him. Between the **** Utah on his fingernails, to his body language when losing, noticed his teammates don't even sit near him when USC was down late in games, comments about how he won't play for certain teams and wanting a % of ownership of the team that drafts him (the latter may have also been made up), the guy seems like a primmadonna that is extremely unlikeable by many around him. That kind of attitude isn't going to fly in Chicago either if he does end up there. The ONLY reason I'd consider drafting him is because it buys the Bears a few more years to have a talented QB on a rookie contract. It would be more about finances than anything else.

Totally different people.
But are they different QBs? Time will tell, but I’m not convinced Maye will be any more successful in the NFL than Trubisky has been to this point. Trubisky going in the first round was ludicrous.

Game was too big for Mitch. Drake has been trained for this his entire life. Think Peyton Manning who can move when describing Maye.

It’s people so nothing is a lock but I’ve been to every one of their games in person plus some of their practices - Maye is much more advanced than Mitch was in his last year.

Bears fan as well and I'm in agreement. Harrison and Olu would be solid draft picks (even though I generally hate taking an OL in 1st 10-15 picks unless they're Pace/Jones/Boselli type talent) with trading out of that #1 spot netting them more picks and maybe another veteran piece like Moore was this season. With the amount of cap space the Bears have, finances shouldn't be that big of a deal and they can hold off on worrying about extending Fields for another couple of years. Spend that cap space on JJ to shore up that CB spot and then go get a veteran safety to replace Jackson and another interior OL.

He’s Peyton Manning with legs. That’s a bold statement. We will see. Peyton Manning is in rare air in my opinion and not many can be mentioned in the same conversation.

I don’t think either of them demanded a team trade their first pick
The comment was directed at this :

I miss the good old days when players would suck it up, get drafted by a team they don't want to play for, pose with a jersey on draft day, then throw a tantrum.

Those 2 did not just suck it up.

We forget that Bo Jackson chose to play baseball to avoid playing for the Bucs after they drafted him. They evetually gave up his rights and he signed with the Raiders.

So now players think they can dictate to an NFL team what they should do with their draft picks?? I miss the good old days when players would suck it up, get drafted by a team they don't want to play for, pose with a jersey on draft day, then throw a tantrum.

You mean like Eli Manning ? Or John Elway ? Or are we talking before that ??? LOL
My recollection is that Eli was pretty much okay going to whatever team drafted him, but it was Ol' Arch who upset the apple cart. Guess it's understandable that Ol' Arch didn't want to see one of his kids get beat up the way he did at New Orleans. Then again, if anyone deserved to get the shlt kicked out of him, it was Ol' Arch.

If the Bears want to draft a QB with their first pick, they should take Michael Penix. He had a poor game against Michigan, but Penix is better than Caleb Williams He just made DeBoer a whole LOT of money.

Yeah, but the Bo story is way different in the way it went down.

Well that didn’t work….

Think about it. How would that even work? If Chicago wanted to trade the pick, a deal would take time to put together, more time between when the "story" was floated and today (the deadline to declare). And how would any declaration of intent the Bears might make be binding?

I thought it was ridiculous when they floated the idea

The deadline is too early in the cycle for that sort of ultimatum to be workable. On the other hand, if someone threatened not to sign if drafted by XYZ, that has legs.

Does it really? If they don’t sign what are they going to do? Go back into next yrs draft? And do what for a yr? Play in Canada? Go back to school? They can’t play

That's one side. On the other, does a GM want to call the player's threat and potentially lose a first-round pick? Or does a team want to sign a player who doesn't want to be there?

Boils down to which side has bigger cojones (notice the correct spelling).
