Fries and gravy
I think thats more a Bmore and MD thing, although my dad liked it so not sure where he picked it up from, possibly the Navy.
Since Franklin is from the east side of the state most his choices make sense but there are other foods from the central part and western part that are woefully forgotten.
Central Part of the state Chicken Corn Soup has to be included.
Western Part dare I say Gobs?
but for actual food, like another poster said, Chicken and Waffles and not the fried chicken with maple syrup abomination is at the top of my list and then Pierogis.

We had fries with gravy in elementary school in Beaver County.
We didn't have it at school but yea we ate it at home that way a lot. Like I said my dad loved it. It wasn't until I moved to Baltimore that I found out how much of a staple it is there, it's right up there with crabs and crab cakes. Sometimes on the same plate. 🤣

I don't think so. In the late sixties the "new" college diner, for instance, would have a counter full of customers, most eating fries and gravy

It was a regular part of my 3 AM diet in my early 20s stops at Pats Diner in Belmar, NJ. Pork roll, egg, and cheese with cheese fries and gravy, then time for night nights. Pretty sure that meal was sponsored by a local cardiologist.

Jerry’s Belvedere had some of the best. As did Hamlins in Severna park. Sadly they tore that down

I live in NC.
For those that have made the same mistake as I, and left PA, before you pay those exhorbitant fees to have your favorite foods shipped, check around your area.
Since I moved here forty-five years ago, we have Seltzer’s Lebanon Bologna at Food Lion stores. Taylor Pork Roll at Lowe’s Foods. Scrapple produced locally by Neese’s Sausage Co.
I personally like Jersey Mike’s Hoagies, and as I mentioned in a cheesesteak thread earlier, it ain’t hard to find a good one in these parts.
There are a number of reasons I wish I hadn’t left my home town of Philadelphia, but food items has never really been one of them.
However, Good Water Ice is hard to find. 🙂

My nana was from Lithuania and thus we had a lot of Polish foods in our younger days. She used to make fresh Kielbasa (and let us help with stuffing into casings). She used to make some great perogies with potato pancakes. Good stuff.
Later in life we used to get our Polish goodies over in the Richmond neighborhood in Philadelphia. I hear that some of the same places are still pumping out the sausages and other delicasies.
There’s lots of smoked kielbasa around that comes close, but I’ve never been able to find the fresh kielbasa like my granny and the folks in the Richmond neighborhood are known for.
Visited a place called Betski’s a few years ago in Raleigh that was real good, but I don’t get over that way much.

Czerw’s is still at it in Port Richmond and you can get a kielbasi “cheese steak” at Gault & Co Malt House called the Wit or Witowski, good stuff
