I'll say the same thing I say to Pitt fans who ***** about PSU playing cupcakes instead of Pitt.....Take the same deal as that cupcake (come play AT PSU every year for $1.5 mill - or whatever the cupcake gets ) and you'll get that PSU game you desperately claim to desire, AND PSU gets what it wants. Seems a WIN/WIN for both schools.

I'm always amazed at the number of long-time PSU fans who are all in favor of playing Pitt, or even adding Pitt to the B1G. (Yes, I realize that early on, JVP mentioned them as a possible conference member as well, but that was 20ish years ago and the one-time rivalry still had some meaning.) Why would we ever want to help them in any way?

That said, if we do an occasional home-and-home, fine. Or, 2-for-1 home advantage for us. I don't want another 4 game set, and I doubt the current Admin does either. We are the state and national draw in this matchup, not them, and giving them any help financially with a high ticket priced home game sellout isn't on my list of preferred charities. But I could live with 1 game there a decade if we get at least 2 at home in that same time.

So is he saying to play Pitt only at home on the four-home-B1G years or every year? I would be OK with the every other year home games but not at Pitt ... well, maybe after the home games even up - by my calculations, after 48 games at Penn State.
He is saying every year, home-and-home, with our home games being when we need 3 home ooc games. We would replace a B1G game at season's end with them in his scenario, so our B1G 9 game season would be complete on the weekend prior to Thanksgiving. We would be unique in the B1G in that regard. Pitt would still be one of the 3 ooc opponents, played there, when we need just 2 home ooc games.

He is right in that Pitt is a better opponent than Delaware, (or (ugh) UMass), but still, it's Pitt, so an absolute no vote here to an every year deal. Like I said in an earlier post, never is my preference, but no more than 1x per decade at Pitt to at least 2 home for us is a compromise that I'd live with.

In that case, NFW. That would NOT be equivalent to Delaware. Delaware doesn't get a home-and-home. For a home-and-home, IM(NS)HO, play a team you respect. Pitt ≠ It

The idea that "Pitt would replace Delaware" (or replace any other pay day game) is disingenuous, at best.

I am sure, or at least I would hope it is "sure", that PSU would be very welcoming to Pitt coming up to PSU on a regular basis for a pay day game - but ain't no way Pitt would ever do that (let alone do it every year). Period.

It is indeed unfortunate that PSU does not have a fixed "rival" to end the season with every year and I think that rivalries are part of what make college football so great.

That said, I have no idea what that has to do with playing Pitt. It would be just as "interesting" to end the season playing (say) Maryland every year if our goal is to simply play a regional team. There's no way in hell PSU should use their precious non conference away game availability to play the likes of Pitt every year.

Been in the Big 10 over 30yrs and still no rivalry, Big East would probably still be in existence had PSU been added back in the day.

Did he finally give up on a solution for wiping his own rear end, and move onto other problems?

PSU doesn’t have a rivalry in the Big Ten, which is somewhat sad, but also not surprising. Having said that, the $$$ we get from the Big Ten far outweigh the need (real or perceived) to have a true rival. Playing Pitt is a lose/lose situation.

People who want to play Pitt every year are solely thinking about this from a fan's perspective. But this is a business. And the hard truth, no matter how hard Pitt fans try to tell you otherwise, is that Penn State receives no benefit to playing Pitt every year while Pitt receives a great benefit. Pitt gets more eyes on them due to playing a higher profile program, and their home games against us are the only games that get sold out, with the exception of maybe Clemson or FSU. Beating Pitt just doesn't do much for us perception wise and it doesn't put any more butts in the seats at Beaver.

If Penn State decided to play them twice a decade or something, so be it. But anything more than that is bestowing upon them more value than their program possesses. Let them play WVU yearly.

Well i am going to receive hate mail....i just don't understand the angst against JVP son's. Most dads try to help their sons....mine did. Playing Pitt is a better game than most OOC....and better than some B1G teams. Is this hatred because of Pitt along with Syracuse blocking PSU from joining the Big East? They did us a favor and sabotaged themselves with that. Is it about the Ped State chants? Yes they are crude, rude, and obnoxious....and PSU has it's own misfit fans Playing Pitt would be good for recruiting WPIAL, Ohio, and the media would love it. Maybe it is time to be the adults and use Pitt for OUR benefit.....and slap them around.

No thanks… playing Pitt only boosts their credibility in the region. It not like they are a sure win, and if they somehow manage to beat us then its a special season (keychains all around), and Pitt gets a boost just for playing us because of our bigger brand. I’d much rather rotate through SEC teams.

If we can't beat Pitt....how are we going to beat tOSU, UM, and USC? Why do we worry about "their" credibility....if that happens then our SOS also gets a bump up....i don't care if we do or don't play Pitt....i just don't understand this universal fear of giving them something instead of annihilating them into submission. IF....the reason to not play Pitt is because we would then have the equivalent of a 10 conference game schedule THAT i will agree with.

Ok. "We" will do what we can.

I know it has become popular with a certain few posters on this board to pick on people who say anything other than positive indifference to the program, but try not to be one of them.
