LOL. She just beat out Kim Kardashian and the Real Housewives of MarshCreek.

A good friend of mine had an encounter with her. She filmed a short video and posted it on tictoc. At age 19. She gets a message on Tictoc from someone who is saying she is Taylor Swift's stage manager. Taylor saw the video and wanted to invite her to see her last US show at SoFi Stadium. She goes to mom and dad who are mulling over what to do and suspecting it a scam. As they are looking at it, she gets a URL sent to her. Her dad is technical so did all of the necessary stuff...copied the URL (didn't hit the link) and opened it via an incognito mode session. Here, it is a link to ticketmaster and four tickets in row four. After doing some other due diligence, mom/dad and two daughters book flights and a hotel in LA. They go to the show. After the warm up but before Taylor starts, a gal comes over and introduces herself. She IDs herself as the stage manager and they talk. Finally the stage manager says, "did you get my message that I sent a half hour ago?" "No." "Oh, Taylor wanted to introduce herself so we invited you backstage but it is too late now as Tay-tay is now in her last-minute prep and checks before going on." Apparently, the cellular was overwhelmed and they didn't get the text until late that night. The show was great. Taylor gestured at them a few times. They hung around as long as they could afterward, until they were kicked out, in the hopes they'd get another message from the stage manager but no such luck.

I'm a Swiftie but not because of her looks. In fact, she seems awfully young and rather asexual for a pop star. I like her music and the fact that she has written music for both country and pop fans - impressive. Plus, I like her version of Last Christmas.

Time Person of the Year? I guess, due to revenue and the hysteria around her shows in each city.

Simple Cub would wreck that *****

Knowing you from this board, Simple Cub could be:

1. The name of your cat although I would expect if you had any they are numbered like Things from The Cat in the Hat
2. Name of a cool underground rapper or punk singer
3. Maybe a daughter? I don't know...
4. nickname for your member?

I'm just sayin', that looks like my cat.

I’ve always liked her - very smart and business savvy, great writer, outstanding performer, grounded, seems fun, and of course, legs for days..

When my daughter was a girl scout several years ago. (Bad Reputation tour), my wife gets an e-mail from the Girl Scouts organization. "If anybody wants tickets to the Taylor Swift show at the Linc, just e-mail us how many you need". Taylor was giving away unsold tickets to the local shows. Wife replies to the e-mail...I'll take 3. We got 3 free tix directly from Swift's "people" in the club section, no less. No questions asked. I'm sure we could have taken 10 if we wanted.

I have see a lot of big shows. She put on a great show. That had to be the best concert performance I've ever seen.

She and Def Leppard were great when they did Crossroads.
Short story, supposedly, Tay’s mom is a huge DL fan so she became a fan, as well, growing up. When they agreed to do Crossroads, Tay asked Joe Elliot if she she could sing the first verse of Photograph. Joe answered, “I’ve been singing that verse for the past 25 years. You can sing the whole song for all I care!”

She could reach Dolly Parton status if she is willing and able to convince her fans to vote next year.

My buddy’s daughter took riding lessons with her in Wyomissing . One day Taylor said take my tack we are moving to Nashville . Parents were accountants packed up and moved . The rest is history .
The story is usually more like my other friend . His daughter was a honors music major at Indiana. Sent her to Nashville and dumped like 200 k into trying to launch a career . Of course it didn’t pan out . 😥

ok i will say it....

She seems like a nice enough person but if that is all that takes to. be person of the year we have fallen so far as a society that we will never recover.

And my comment is not reflective of this young lady.
If you're talking in terms of world impact, Time has named as its person of the year"

Pierre Laval
Hitler
Stalin (twice)
Ayatollah Khomeini
Putin

I'll take Taylor Swift any day.

Nothing against her. but it shows how far we have fallen as a society when a pop culture icon is the best we can do. i guess you missed that part of my post.

You also chose to ignore FDR (several times) the American soldier and a host of other.

Sad for you bro.

Tough to complain about Swift after the back-to-back selections of Hitler and Stalin in ‘38 and ‘39.
It’s kind of like Harold Baines getting into the baseball HOF or Guy Carbonneau getting into the hockey HOF. Once they’ve gotten the honor the door is open for just about anybody else.

nothing you posted makes any sense.
it's 2023 not 1940 so no correlation in time.

You should stop while you are me behind

I hear you. But. The whole Taylor swift thing the last year or so has truly been a phenomenon. Not a swifter in any way but it really was a huge pop culture thing.

Really? They've named Madame Peanut and Newt Gingrich in years past.

Most of the magazine's designees are admirable people who have accomplished much. That doesn't mean that is sometimes they either goof or there aren't good choices.

And save your pity for yourself.

There was an article in the local paper (actually the paper's website) about Taylor performing a free concert years ago at one of the local high schools. Very few people attended and she hung out with the students and took pictures after the show. If those kids only knew what they were missing!

I think most of the argument here is misunderstanding the intent of Time: "for better or for worse... has done the most to influence the events of the year".

I always get on my coworker's case about missing his chance with Swift. He was a classmate of hers at Wyomissing. He said she was gangly and nowhere near as attractive as she is now. He was a future D1AA football player and she had a thing for football players. I guess some things don't change.

In your co-worker's defense, Taylor was 14, and in Junior High, when she moved out of Wyomissing.

Does anyone really care about these things? - I think she is great and now a billionaire so props to her - better than any Kardashian because she at least has tons of talent and seems like a decent person - but hey I give the Kardashian credit they have tons of money and no apparent talent - at least it appears to me and get off my lawn by the way.
