As an alternative, I believe it is better to rename Curtin Road between University Drive and Porter Road as --- Paterno Way. Make the address for the stadium 409 Paterno Way and BJC as 1 Paterno Way. Also, name the Player Entrance to Beaver Stadium at 409 Paterno Way -- Success with Honor.

Naming the field Paterno Field at Beaver Stadium only gets mentioned 6/7 times a year at Football games.

My way to honor JVP gets him mentioned on all mail to/from BJC and Beaver Stadium.

Maybe it's just me, but I never liked the naming of the field separate from the stadium. It's like..."we ran out of places to name after football people, so this is the best we can do". Does anybody really give a crap about General Beaver? He already has a main road and a building anyway. After the remodel, change it to Paterno Stadium.

Beaver is overrated!

As much as I would love to see the University honor Joe, I also love how Penn State honors traditions and doesn't follow the latest fads....uniforms, stadium naming rights, names on jerseys (usually :) ).
Penn State plays football in Beaver Stadium.

Something tells me if Joe were alive, he'd feel the same way.

Paterno Field, or as someone else mentioned, Paterno Way would be the way to go IMHO.

I absolutely do not understand why Kobe Bryant is getting three statues outside of the arena in LA. Mindboggling.

I understand that naming the field for Joe was the original plan and had the approval of the family.

were apparently held in January.

Thanks for finding this.

I suspect this was leaked to the media and to Spotlight to gauge reaction and gain momentum for the backlash that would come from the great uninformed about the JS story beyond the headlines and shocking first paragraphs. That way, those opposed on the BOT have all they need to vote it down without taking direct responsibility for owning the decision. But it is good to see they realize that taking the action could also open a few wallets that have been largely closed since 2012.

Paterno Way - I believe first suggested by @psuro over a decade ago - and Paterno Field and an interactive and state-of-the-art Wall of Honor in and around the stadium instead of retiring numbers (done by Fester to twist the knife in Joe's deceased back) is my preference.

Sounds about right. I do like the official response for comment on the meetings.

When asked for comment on the meetings, an unnamed Penn State spokesperson wrote via email: “The Administration and the Board of Trustees have embarked on numerous change initiatives based on President Bendapudi’s vision and goals and are focused on these priorities to continue to provide a world-class academic and student experience for years to come.”

That's beyond the usual type of obfuscation. Flat out contextually unintelligible. Then again, Spotlight had to expect something along those lines.

This is what we are up against.

Obfuscation would be a step in the right direction.

Joe loved the classics so how about a new Joe statue that is on par with the Colossus of Rhodes. Have it straddle the stadium

Yes, but it does provide an opportunity to reference "President Bendapudi’s vision and goals." Can't pass those up.

Terrific post! I admit i never thought of that .... i just get depressed knowing Paterno did NOTHING wrong yet is vilified by the press, public, and even ignorant PSU supporters and Alumni. If Rod Erickson can have his name on a building, JoePa deserves his name on the field, and also everything your post proposes!

I know this ---- if Jay Paterno is one of the trustees in favor of this (an he probably is), this will NEVER happen.

JayPa has a batting average of 0.0000 in his professional life. Everything he's tried professinally: he fails. Football coach, politician, board of trustee member. Failure, failure, failure.

Could State College change the name of Curtin Road without the university's involvement?

Who do you think is feeding this to Wyatt Massey? Take a look at his past articles and it’s pretty obvious.

Why just between University and Porter? What would be more appropriate than renaming all of Curtain Road since it connects the Paterno Library with Beaver Stadium? And, with apologies to Ohio State, it should be The Paterno Way.

I am not psuro, but years ago I did suggest The Paterno Way as a replacement for Curtin because it would symbolize what Joe stood for by connecting the library to the stadium.

Who cares? Given the subject matter, they could discuss it in a Faraday cage, but I guess Massey is dumb enough to print a story about it.

Neeli is looking for revenue generating ideas (aka change initiatives) but she's looking for more than loose change.

Precisely correct.
Philly writer Sielski has an article in inquirer and daily news today revealing he has no clue about facts

Sadly most of America likely still thinks JoePa is evil. We shouldn’t care what they think. That being said, expect a social media shitstorm if and when they do this.

The timing of this leak and these discussions is interesting. Especially in light of the University's financial issues. The BOT exploited Joe before, they are certainly capable if doing it again.

I'd be surprised if anything happened along the lines being discussed and I don't believe there is as much money locked up as people seem to think there is.
