I don't know if he would work in Starkville or not, but his resume is as impressive as any active coach in the country, even with the flop this year.

This has absolutely gotta be bullshít…..

IMG_7621.jpeg

He makes almost $8 million per year, but practically doesn’t even have a buyout?

“Yeah Mike, we’d like to restructure your deal….we’ll start paying you $35,000 per year next season. Also, you no longer have university provided health insurance.”

“Uh, I don’t agree?”

“Oh. Well that’s a shame. I guess you’re fired for insubordination, and have already collected your last ever check from us. Best of luck!”

What agent or attorney is ever letting his client agree to that deal? Lawyers are definitely lawyering right now….no way its that easy to can a P4 coach with Gundy’s history.

If he was hungry and engaged, it’d be stupid not to get him if available. But I can’t imagine he still wants to coach all that much. He’s been at it a long time with not many breaks.

Or,

He'll take it personally, like Rick Barnes did after Texas shat all over his good work there and he'll go build a big winner elsewhere.

Mike Gundy through 2017 & from 2018 through 2024 are two different coaches.

I think he would be good here but I wonder what exactly happened this year. It’s his lowest win total in any season, the wheels just completely came off. He had took them to 18 straight bowls games before this year, crazy.

The classic MSU quandary.

Will this “past his prime” coach still be pretty damn good (Leach), just OK but kind of going through the motions (Howland), or really underwhelming because they are ONLY going through the motions (Polk 2), or, somehow, all three at various points in time (Sherrill)?

In this case, I think if any of the 4 options is still guaranteed to be better than what we have now. Its not a long term fix. But pragmatically, MSU is never going to have a long term fix. Ever. So that should stop being used as a reason to cloud judgment of the powers that be. Make the easy, clear decision. Make it now….before someone else does.

I guess, but he still has a winning conference record in the 2nd time frame and 3 ranked finishes, including a top 10

Leach and Sherrill both proven winners on their last stop in their legendary career careers and both successful at MSU. There is no doubt in my mind Mike Gundy would also be successful at MSU.

He will probably sit out a year then return to the game. It will be interesting to see who hires h8m, would be good for a progrm like UCLA Or North Carolina.

I just read his buyout was 25-26 million, which they now don't have to pay because he wouldn't take a cut.

Rough start to the year with him talking about player in trouble for dui saying it wasn't a big deal and wasn't going to sit him because he didn't want to punish the team. He also said some stuff like who hasn't driven in that situation. Just not a smart thing to say. but I feel like portal and nil are really screwing with these coaches that have been doing it a while. Players are different and have leverage now

How do they not have to pay the buyout if he won’t take a pay cut? If I have a 5-year contract with a buyout & my employer wants me to take a pay cut, I politely saying 17 you.
