Good game. We just a little out manned.
I don’t think so. Hicks was getting efficient outs. He should have went longer. Not sure why Proctor would get the ball in that situation. UF threw their best guys. We didn’t for some reason.

What ended up happening with the interference call? Did the ump actually call Wimmer out because he made contact with the 1B? Or was he tagged out because he thought he had been awarded 2nd base?

Frankly, I have no idea! The only thing I can think of is he didn't call time before he started arguing and got tagged out or they called the interference on him and called him out. If I had an unbiased opinion I would say Caglanione was just going for the ball and Wimmer initiated the contact and then flopped to try and get an extra base, just what I saw. But IMO, he still shouldn't have been called out, just not awarded 2nd and given 1st.

Agree. PLENTY of opportunities. Had a bunch of hits.
the bases loaded 1 out inning was a killer.........I do like out team, and man with no football how I could use a CWS run like 2010-2012. That to me was still some of my most exciting Gamecock moments

He was tagged. Ump claims he wasn’t awarded 2B. Might not be popular, but I think this is more on Wimmer. He could have jogged to 2B. There was contact, but I think he flopped a little. No need for it. But he still had time to hop up and run to 2nd and make it. He didn’t, and broke the cardinal rule…don’t leave the game up to the umps.

Yep. Had a chance to blow it open early. I’m still encouraged by their play. This isn’t the team we saw in May.

We'll see what they are made of. Need Mahoney to hold down their run production. Coming back to win in 3 games would make a statement!

That’s exactly what I saw and thought

Why was there no review?

I agree. The way Wimmer reacted he heard something that made him believe he was given the base. If he wasn’t, the umpire shouldn’t have said or signaled anything but he clearly did. Should’ve been told to go back to first and that be the end of it. Both parties win in that case.

Never should have stopped running. Probably would have ended up on second base

I’m sorry but this is a classic “hindsight is 20/20” comment. Players are told not to show up umps, listen to umps, they enforce the rules, blah, blah, blah. I’m not gonna blame a player for reacting to what certainly appeared to be an umpires ruling.

No hindsight. Anyone who has played baseball knows he should have kept going and let the umps sort it out

What about when an umpire signals foul ball with his hands? When is it ok for a runner to stop running and go back to the plate? Where does it end? If the umpire made any sort of signal of obstruction or interference then they’re in the wrong and they should’ve made it right. Plain and simple.

The umps may have been wrong. I don’t know. What I do know is if he had kept running he would have either been placed at first or second, and wouldn’t have been out

Yea, it seems as if folks on here are ignoring the fact that the umpire pointed demonstratively at caglianone and yelled something. He was clearing calling obstruction. Whether it was obstruction or not is certainly debatable, but there is no debate that he made the call.

Again, like I said earlier, people on here love being baseball gurus because they “played the game for years” and probably got All-Area Fourth Team Honorable Mention on the JV team in 10th grade (plaque still hanging in the man cave next to the free Big Mac coupon that came with it) so they would’ve done it the right way had they been in the game last night. I can’t say Wimmer was in the wrong there and coach Kingston seems to agree with me.
