I honestly don't know, I didn't watch FSU this year. But they were bad, like really bad like us, did this guy not play?

He played.

Kromenhoek appeared in six games, starting in the final two contests in 2024 as a true freshman, completing 44/84 passes for 502 yards with three touchdowns to two interceptions, along with 63 rushes for 113 yards.

Florida State is projected to return one scholarship quarterback on the roster, Brock Glenn, but brought on 4-star quarterback Kevin Sperry during the Early Signing Period.

Boston College QB Castellanos is FSU QB next yr.

I’m assuming we are starting to hedge a little on Arnold.
Or this was a response to Arnold's agreeing to visit Auburn. "Oh you have other options? So do we"

But now that I'm looking at it, his ranking out of high school seems better than I thought, seeing that Lagway and the QB from Nebraska were 2 of the 3 ahead of him, and they had decent to good seasons. He would at least be a solid backup plan for Shapen this year (or better yet, take a redshirt)

We had a 3 Star true freshman start 8 games and played very well behind a suspect o line. If
we get a 5 Star rising sophomore QB to transfer to State
I can't see him coming to be a back up. He would get equal opportunity to start.

Not sure why we would let him take a redshirt year if he is coming out of the portal? So hey come play for us for 650k you can just practice and take a redshirt year and then transfer somewhere else next year? That sounds like smart business decision! This has to be fixed I could see giving him redshirt if he signs a three year guaranteed contract? So he would have 1 year left his senior year after redshirt?

Looking at recent history (Gabriel) and throwing in past history (Merlinz/Newton), our track record stinks when we have a coaching connection with a quarterback.

If you are going to bring in an inexperienced FSU qb, why not just stick with mVB in the first place ?

Let me know when either of these 5 stars actually sings with us.
Right…..we both know neither of them are coming. Let me go ahead and let you know how it’s going to go: these transfer are going to be just like Dillon Gabriel last year….go elsewhere and we will start Shapen the first 4 games, it’ll go terrible and we will force Taylor in as the starter.

It's looking more and more like Shapen and some no name back up.
Maybe if you don’t publicly announce you are bringing in Arnold and then leak to the media that van Buren is asking too much money, you have a chance to retain van buren ?

Sure, he'd have the opportunity to beat out Shapen and start. I said 'at least...' I was assuming Shapen knows the offense better, will run it more efficiently at first, therefor will beat him out as starter the first game. Then see how the season goes. I think it's a great plan for this season - and what I meant when I said 'better yet' was, IF Shapen has a great year and stays healthy and IF you can RS this guy, he could be the likely starter the next two years.

But this is all conjecture and basically old school (3 years ago) thinking anyway. It's sounding more and more like all future plans are out the window anyway, and as a coach you need to forget about planning and just find a new starter every year. Which sucks.

If you're saying the system in its current form sucks, we agree.

Yeah it does suck. Terribly. Whoever we sign don't run out and by a State jersey with his number on it. He may be gone by the spring portal.
