Michigan, Minnesota, and Ohio State are the next 3 games. All 3 are winnable games but we could lose all 3 games. If we lose 2-3 of those games, then I’m all in with playing Allar the rest of the year.
Total agreement. Many on the board will say they agree but if it happens and we lose to Rutgers, many will call for Franklin’s head, say Allar is a bum and try to run Yurcich out of town.

The headline is misleading. “Not up to the standard” could be interpreted as the standard we expect and require, which I‘m sure is part of Franklin’s thinking. However, Franklin said that Clifford did not play to the standard that he normally plays at, which suggests that Franklin considered it an off day. That likely means that Franklin hasn‘t lost faith in Clifford.

I agree- but I also think we win 2 of those games

I sincerely hope that if Allar becomes QB that he lives up to the “Tom Brady Super Bowl level” that everyone expects.

Yeah, but Tom Brady got benched beat out by Drew Henson while at Michigan.

I interpreted it like you said = he did not play up to the standard he normally play = JF still has faith in SC. I also think that Clifford is once again not at 100%. his scrambling is not nearly as evident as normal. He is hesitating to run when it may be his best available option. Assume the brace on the knee is not there just for show.

Better taste.....less filling? Fans feel strongly both ways. Couch coach insight.

100% agree. And I think Allar will be the full time starter by the final third of the season just for the fact that Franklin knows how special next year could/should be.

I dunno, if Clifford isn’t clearly injured IMO it’s a pipe dream to think CJF would demote Clifford at any point this season.
If we are still in the hunt, no way he makes a change- if we're not, maybe he would

I can’t see him replacing Clifford until he’s injured. Given his history, that’s just a matter of time. I expect Clifford will be hurt with Allar getting more reps starting the week after the Ohio St game.

Agree with this. Cliff is still the guy.

This is really working out well to set up next year. Allar does need more reps though going to be tough to come by the rest of the schedule.

Agree that Clifford is still the guy but VERY disappointed there were no plans going into the game to give Allar at least one series in each half. VERY poor judgement on Franklin’s part especially since he’s played decently in his opportunities so far this year.

You sub at other positions during games, why not yesterday at QB?

I think Franklin is putting heat on Clifford because he needs to bring out his absolute best in this next stretch of big games

They should have made the switch to Allar Game 2. It's too late at this point - can't switch it up during the 3 game gauntlet. After those 3 games, you reassess - if you're 5-3, you give Allar a TON of reps in the remaining games. Otherwise, it's Clifford for the remainder of the season.

That said, I don't think these comments by Franklin indicate any desire to bench Clifford.

Franklin screwed up in the off season. He should have influenced Clifford to move on with his life's work. Veilleux should have been the starter with Allar replacing him the second he faltered. This should have been Allar's grooming season along with grooming all the other terrific underclassmen. Next season could be our year to shine, but we need a seasoned Allar to do it.

we'd probably be 3-2 now and people would be calling for Franklin's head

He needs another year of seasoning!!
I still think he could use his knee injury this year as a medical redshirt and return next year. Does his NIL company pay Social Security and at what age can payments start?

Maybe James needs to take a page out of Tomlins playbook and start the future QB next game.

BINGO. Also probably intended to send a message to Clifford.

Was thinking we would see Allar getting significant snaps against Northwestern, rather than zero.

You must be a charter member of the "my favorite PSU player is the back up QB" club. Anyone who thinks starting Allar in his first game in the Big House is absolutely clueless.
My error, not start but insert in the second half if our first half is a continuation of overthrown passes and missing open receivers. I have stuck by Cliff for many painful years but it is getting pretty old seeing the same type of plays.

Yeah, the third string guy should have been the guy. 🙄
