Since there are only 4 regular season games left, which freshmen will start seeing more playing time? Recall they can play 4 and all of the post season and still redshirt.

Four games is still the limit for regular season games (and still retaining a redshirt). And the post-season games still do not count against the 4-game threshold.

Luke Reynolds, Cooper Cousins, and Dejuan Lane are well past the 4-game threshold. So we'll continue to see them.

Quinton Martin is at 3 games. He probably would have gone past the threshold, except he's been out with an injury. Projecting his future use is pretty dependent upon his health, as well as the health of the starting RBs

Vaboue Toure and Max Granville are at 2 games. I suspect both will see action in two of the upcoming games.

Tyseer Denmark, Kenny Woseley, Anthony Speca, Jaylen Harvey, Xavier Gilliam, Eagan Boyer, Jon Mitchell, and Antoine Belgrave-Shorter have all played in 1 game. I suspect that most of them will see some action in some number (up to 3) of the upcoming games.

Lastly, Corey Smith, Ethan Grunkemeyer, Liam Andrews, Garrett Sexton, Malachi Williams, Donovan Harbour, Josiah Brown, T.A. Cunningham, Caleb Brewer, Kari Jackson, Peter Gonzalez, and DeAndre Cook have yet to play in a game. Andrews and Gonzalez are injured, so it's questionable if they'll see any time in the upcoming games. I think Brown is also injured, but I'm not certain about that. If he is, then I question if we'll see him. Reports are good about Grunk. But there are other QBs with more experience on the roster that are also chomping to get playing time, so I question if we'll see him. Granville is a exception, as is Cousins, but in general OL and DL prospects need a year (or more) to work on their technique, while also building up their bodies, so I'd be somewhat surprised if Sexton, Williams, Harbour, Cunningham, or Cook see much (if any) time. Perhaps with Beamon departing the team this week, Cunningham will get some time; I'm not sure.

Outside of the 3 that have exceeded the threshold, I'm not sure if we'll see much (if any) of the others listed above against Washington. After that, PSU has games against (in order), Purdue, Minnesota, and Maryland. The Purdue game, and the Maryland game, seem like situations where many of the aforementioned (excluding injured, OL/DL, and Grunk) will see action. They may also see action against Minny; probably depends on how PSU does in the 1st half of that game.

Thanks for this information Tom, it's difficult to get the correct game participation on the Freshmen.

We was motoring but defenders caught up to him.
Actually thought he got gassed. A RB looking back, legs getting like rubber and thinking, "I hope someone catches me."
Bet he got roasted by the "lawn boys."

Yep, he called for holding on the KR and coached Warren to fumble. Don't understand why Kraft didn't fire him on the spot!

At one point during the game, they showed Franklin on the sideline with Kraft observing close by. 🤔

You're looking for an update after the Washington game? I'll presume that's the case.

Past the 4-game threshold:
Luke Reynolds, Cooper Cousins, DeJuan Lane

Has played 3 games:
Quinton Martin

Have played 2 games:
- Vabou Toure
- Max Granville
- Anthony Speca
- Kenny Woseley

Have played 1 game:
- Corey Smith
- Tyler Denmark
- Jaylen Harvey
- Xavier Gilliam
- Eagan Boyer
- Jon Mitchell
- Antoine Belgrave-Shorter

Have not played this season:
- Ethan Grunkenmeyer
- Liam Andrews
- Garrett Sexton
- Malachi Williams
- Donovan Harbour
- Josiah Brown
- T.A. Cunningham
- Caleb Brewer
- Kari Jackson
- Peter Gonzalez
- DeAndre Cook

CJF didn't say specifically that any freshmen would play against Purdue (or future games). However, in an answer to a question this past week, he did seem to indicate that Corey Smith, Tyseer Denmark, Eagan Boyer, Donovan Harbour, Xavier Gilliam, Max Granville, Jaylen Harvey, Anthony Speca, Antoine Belgrave-Shorter, Kenny Woseley and Jon Mitchell were guys that were under the threshold that were likely to see action in some number of the final games.

The press that covers PSU is given limited access to practice on Wednesday. Based on how guys were lining up in drills, it appears that Quinton Martin is likely to play this week (which would be his last game to keep his redshirt) as is Tyseer Denmark (with the caveats that things can change between Wednesday practice and game time).

Yes, thank you.

Meaningless games. Frankin decided to coach vs Ohio State and he lost. He went fishing last night and the team came through without him. We deserve better.
Did you count joes wins vs unranked teams? You should put a - 300 bumper sticker behind the 409 sticker.

Turn on your sarcasm detector. There is not bigger fan or admirer here when it comes to Joe. He was the greatest educator/coach in the history of college sports. Perhaps the most influential for reform as well.
But sadly, time marches on and to date is undefeated. Joe is gone. Enter James Franklin. He has been a magnificent representative of PSU. In many ways I see him functioning as a modern day Paterno. The fact that the team loses on rare occasions doesn't impact my evaluation of his overall effectiveness. Having been involved in athletics for 60 years I can state with certainty that the preponderance of athletic contests are determined by the participants......not the game officials or the coaches.

Easy to be great when you schedule army, navy, air force, Syracuse, Maryland, Rutgers, temple, west Virginia, Boston college and random MAC schools.

You mean back before conferences when teams like Syracuse, Maryland Temple and Rutgers were the regional opponents? Just like everybody else scheduled back then, finding the schools in their region to play?

Agree Joe was a great coach. I wish we beat Ohio State but that game is in the past now and the team is number 4 now and looking really good. There’s great opportunity for them. Franklin is keeping them focused and they can still achieve their goals.

Not really. Let’s see how we do in the playoffs; we might be pleasantly surprised. My biggest concern is for 2025 and how we fare then.
It does go both ways….posters will stop posting sarcastic posts about Franklin when we win once other posters stop posting negative posts about Franklin every time we don’t win a game by 100, or gain at least 15 yards on every play, or don’t score on every drive.

heading into the final game, against Maryland, here's the status:

Past the 4-game threshold:
- Cooper Cousins
- DeJuan Lane
- Luke Reynolds

Have played 3 games:
- Quinton Martin
- Anthony Speca
- Kenny Woseley

Have played 2 games:
- Antoine Belgrave-Shorter
- Eagan Boyer
- Tyler Denmark
- Xavier Gilliam
- Max Granville
- Jaylen Harvey
- Jon Mitchell
- Corey Smith
- Vaboue Toure

Have played 1 game:
- none

Have not played a game:
- Liam Andrews
- Caleb Brewer
- Josiah Brown
- DeAndre Cook
- T.A. Cunningham
- Ethan Grunkemeyer
- Peter Gonzalez
- Donovan Harbour
- Kari Jackson
- Garrett Sexton
- Malachi Williams

Thus, Cousins, Lane, and Reynolds are the only true freshmen that will burn a 'shirt this season.
