Pribula strikes me as a D1AA level qb. I don’t know their depth chart, but he might be better off going to a place like Villanova.

I thought he could end up being similar to Trace. Regardless, he played hard for Penn State and I appreciate it. He ran tough all the time. You could feel his desire to gain yards and make plays to help the team.

I've been busy with other things so I don't know the answer and am guessing it's on this board somewhere: Why the SMU QB is eligible and the PSU QB is not on Saturday?

I don't think it's quite that simple. It sounded like Franklin also worked with Beau on his decision to leave the team. The SMU coach might be making concessions to allow their backup to skip practices, workouts, etc while he's looking for a new home. While Franklin seems to have a policy that once you're in the portal, you're off the team.

If Franklin was ok with Beau splitting his time between finding a new home and preparing for our game, then he's likely still on the team (at least through the first two rounds). There are benefits/drawbacks to both approaches, so I'd see them both as valid "policies".

Franklin has said, once a player decides they are no longer going to be part of the program, that becomes effective immediately so that it does not become a distraction

100%… the way it should be. See ya Beau.
Did everyone listen to Franklin's press conference? Franklin said they have a policy that once you enter the portal, you are no longer on the team. But they looked into making an exception here and ultimately it did not make sense to do so. Franklin acknowledged that Beau needed to make the portal entry now to find the best spot for himself. And then once he enters, they looked at the issues. Beau would need to take time to make trips, this would set a bad precedent, etc. On balance, they decided it was best not to make an exception.

I cannot, knowing that, support what he did as a fan of the team. Not with as many snaps as he was getting per game.
There are a lot of posters here who feel similarly. It seems that a majority do accept Beau’s opting out but nobody is brimming over with enthusiasm about this.

Exactly as I heard it on Franklin B10 Network coaches press conference yesterday
It was talked through, and they could not make it work for the benefit of the ream and benefit of BP.
I think it was the right decision:
BP needed to go on interviews now and prepare for the game and complete his classwork/exams. The game prep most likely included new stuff specifically designed for SMU. Reps with full concentration was required. BP is not a top 5 QB where teams will wait. Teams that would commit to him as guaranteed starter would not want to take the chance, he gets hurt.

It's a matter of choice not eligibility. Because if the portal window timing Beau chose to enter the now so that he has more opportunities to choose from. The SMU QB has chosen to enter the portal after the playoffs.

Well, if he delays, he takes a chance of not having as many opportunities to choose from. I don't blame Beau...I blame the NCAA and their thoughtless decision to open the portal window during the playoffs.

Some will sugar coat it, but Beau quit on the team. Period.
Yes....but you really can't blame him. If he waits until after the playoffs what are his chances of transferring to an ideal situation. By then all the QB spots may be taken and he is forced into a vas situation. The NCAA needs to fix this.

Not only may all the QB spots be taken, he may not be able to transfer to the desired university because their classes may have already started. For example, Northwestern's winter quarter classes start on January 6th.

His “desired university” is supposed to be Penn State. The season isn’t over.

Ucf, Indiana, Missouri iowa in play. Think the first 3 would be great for him. He will do well wherever he goes. Does hurt our playoff run though.

My three stages of Beau went like this:

1) I had the general opinion during the early part of the season that running plays for Beau were killing the momentum of the offense.
2) Then when he played well to bring home the win against Wisconsin, I was glad that we had gotten Beau some game experience early in the season.
3) Now I will be holding my breath every time Allar takes a hit because we don't have a backup QB who has game experience.

Penn State had done everything right this season to have a backup QB who was well-prepared. It really stinks that we don't have that experienced backup QB going into the playoffs. Hopefully it won't be a factor over these next four Penn State games in December and January.

One thing we don't know for sure is if Allar told Beau & the staff that he was coming back BEFORE Beau decided to enter the portal. I suspect that's the case.

Another thing we don't know for sure is if Franklin wants players who commit to the portal off the team so as to not be a distraction. I suspect that it also the case. Who wants your backup QB missing practices because he's busy visiting other schools?

One thing we do know is that the portal closes BEFORE the Fiesta Bowl. Barring injury to Allar Beau wouldn't have played a lot more football for PSU if he decided/was allowed to stay.

PSU told Beau that he wasn't their "desired" starting QB next year. His choices were to either move forward with his career or to risk losing out on other lucrative opportunities.

First paragraph - I think it's pretty clearly a "yes"

Second one - We do know that Franklin has a general policy that they are off the team (from his comments earlier this week)

Third one - Bo could have portaled after the Fiesta Bowl if we were still playing...however, it obviously limits his options

He already decided he was going to run before the ball was snapped to portal; he was never going to pass on that. Seriously, if a team wants him, they could wait until he was available. If they'd rather have someone else, his portalling early won't matter.

Be true to your school. He quit just before the playoff, knowing full well that PSU did not have another experienced backup. That’s crap.

If other portal QBs can stay with this year’s team through the playoff, then Beau could have to. Period.
