Yep. The idea that there is some substantive group of PSU ICA benefactors - that would STOP giving money if such an action took place - is rather perplexing. I suppose anyone can have an opinion, but that's one that flies in the face of a whole lot of fact (and common sense).
A little snippet, that may seem quite tangential, but really says a lot:
Nebraska recently completed a $165 M project (that figure is off the top of my head, but within rounding error) for what amounts to building a Lasch Building type project, that also combines some of the type of spaces recently included in the spate of ICA projects approved this year (Student Athlete Wellness center, office space, etc etc).
They raised all (or nearly all) of the required funds via philanthropy. PSU for similar projects? Not so much
They are also embarking on a large-scale stadium renovation (similar to the one discussed at PSU). They are looking at a cost of up to $450 M (PSU is looking at $700 M) ... and their Board said, in essence "Raise at least $250 M in donations, then come back to us and we will see how extensive of a renovation we will undertake", and they will. PSU? Not so much.
Nebraska certainly has a fine athletic tradition - but haven't won anything of note in a generation. They are also a school with not nearly the alumni base of a PSU, nor the historical prestige of PSU (going back over recent generations). We are not even talking about Michigan or OSU or any of the others we like to consider our "peer group" wrt ICA. Running circles around PSU wrt ICA fundraising.
