Saw today where the Peach Bowl reps said Sue Paterno will be an invited guest at the Bowl. Also saw on the wall of honor at Beaver Stadium, Joe's photo and years coaching was included with the rest of the PSU head coaches. Audrey Synder has a tweet about it.

Dumb question (It’s me. 😞): Was there a Wall of Honor without Joe until now or is the entire Wall of Honor new?

Why would Joe's inclusion even be newsworthy? Of course he would be included as much as water is wet and the sky is blue. Was someone actually contemplating leaving Joe off? That would be one hell of a hole in the wall if true.

I think this refers to the new plaza outside the south end of the stadium, with the bricks in the ground and the year-by-year records including the coaches (and captains?) on plaques on the wall over the plaza. So all new stuff this past season.
Could be wrong, but I think that's it.

Your comment reveals that you are truly clueless about what has taken place at PSU since the 11.9/11 home-grown BOT attack on our university…either that, or you are trying to be a smart as…

What does the President of the Peach Bowl do? Anything besides tweet (x)? What does he make for this gig?
i think the position is tied into the greater Atlanta Sports and Exposition committee. or some such thing.

Well placed sources say things were/are lined up to have Paterno Field at Beaver Stadium but the chair of the BOT is afraid of such a move hurting him in his executive job at Hilton
Such a move would probably also give a lot of younger donors pause. I know I would probably stop giving.

Except that Matt Schuyler is effectively done at Hilton as in T-O-A-S-T. Looks like he done miscalculated.

Yep. The idea that there is some substantive group of PSU ICA benefactors - that would STOP giving money if such an action took place - is rather perplexing. I suppose anyone can have an opinion, but that's one that flies in the face of a whole lot of fact (and common sense).

A little snippet, that may seem quite tangential, but really says a lot:

Nebraska recently completed a $165 M project (that figure is off the top of my head, but within rounding error) for what amounts to building a Lasch Building type project, that also combines some of the type of spaces recently included in the spate of ICA projects approved this year (Student Athlete Wellness center, office space, etc etc).
They raised all (or nearly all) of the required funds via philanthropy. PSU for similar projects? Not so much

They are also embarking on a large-scale stadium renovation (similar to the one discussed at PSU). They are looking at a cost of up to $450 M (PSU is looking at $700 M) ... and their Board said, in essence "Raise at least $250 M in donations, then come back to us and we will see how extensive of a renovation we will undertake", and they will. PSU? Not so much.

Nebraska certainly has a fine athletic tradition - but haven't won anything of note in a generation. They are also a school with not nearly the alumni base of a PSU, nor the historical prestige of PSU (going back over recent generations). We are not even talking about Michigan or OSU or any of the others we like to consider our "peer group" wrt ICA. Running circles around PSU wrt ICA fundraising.

Last I heard, Joe was not visible in the “College” Football Hall of Fame. Has that changed?

And why wouldn't he be included? His picture is with all of the other Head Football Coaches as it should be.

This is something that perplexes me, I see references made to "big money donors," yet I don't see them in the flesh/cash. Yes, Pegula contributed over $100mm for the ice hockey arena and to fund the programs, but that seems to be the extent of his largess. Over the years, the public record shows a handful (5-6) of donors in the $5mm range and the financials don't contradict that. So in the immortal words of the late Clara Peller, "where's the beef?"

Pegula seems to have gone MIA since making the hockey donation. Maybe he hates us now.

Me thinks he's still trying to digest how his contribution to the construction of the Bills new stadium went from $200mm to $500mm before ground was broken.

Never got the sense that Pegula was the savior of PSU athletics. When people talk about the sources of philanthropy for ICA it's in the plural. Names? Amounts?

BIO
No coach has been as synonymous with one school as has Penn State's Joe Paterno. In 2007, he passed Amos Alonzo Stagg's major college record of 41 years coaching at one school. Joe Pa's time at Penn State goes beyond his years as head coach, as he began his career as an assistant at PSU in 1950 under fellow Hall of Fame coach Rip Engle. Engle was Paterno's coach at Brown when Joe played quarterback for the Bears. When Engle left to take the Penn State job, he took Joe with him. Paterno became head coach in 1966. After a 5-5 season his first year, he took the Nittany Lions to a bowl game in his second, and had undefeated teams in his third and fourth seasons. That stretch produced a 31-game unbeaten streak. The five-time National Coach of the Year also had an undefeated team in 1973 and had three one-loss seasons prior to winning his first national title in 1982. Four years later, Paterno won his second national crown defeating Miami (FL) in the Fiesta Bowl, completing his fourth undefeated season. A fifth undefeated team would follow in 1994. The 1994 season also saw Penn State win its first Big Ten title after having joined the conference in the previous year. In 2001, Paterno passed Paul "Bear" Bryant as college football's all-time winningest coach with his 324th all-time victory. Since that game his win total continued to increase as did his record number of bowl appearances, bowl victories, and top ten and top twenty rankings. More important than all of the wins and titles he has accumulated may be his legacy with the influence he has had on his players, Penn State students and alumni. Paterno has generously contributed millions to the school and its academic programs. The National Football Foundation has honored him with the Distinguished American Award in 1992 and the Gold Medal in 2006.
