''Today, I do not apologize. I did not participate, was not aware nor complicit in those said allegations. ''
It's his program and they all work for him. As HC it's his responsibility to be aware of and take responsibility for everything in the program.

It's plausible he didn't know or was willingly ignorant. Football programs are so big now that a coach may not reasonably be aware of the actions of every single person on the staff. Is he ultimately responsible as the boss? Yeah.

It would not surprise if me many coaches take the willingly ignorant route and let it be known that they simply don't know want to know how certain things get done.

Yeah, this feels like the same response we got from Joe Paterno, and he was hung out to dry. Obviously this isn't as big as that, but it feels like the precedent is set for failure to monitor his program...

I do agree with Colin Cowherd's take on this:

"Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter and the DB coach Steve Clinkscale came to the Chargers from Michigan. They're accused — this reads like a Saturday Night Live comedy skit — they're accused of violations at Michigan. Here's one of them. Clinkscale is accused of helping a recruit get verified on Instagram. That same recruit you could pay a million dollars a year to play out of high school. But this is one of the big ones, that the assistant coach got one of his players verified on Instagram. I mean, is this a witch hunt or not? Another one is allegedly sending text messages to high school sophomores. You mean the same ones Ohio State or Michigan or Clemson or Georgia could pay $600,000 to legally. I mean, you got to be kidding me on this stuff. So you can pay a high school player half a million dollars cash. You can wear shirts, 'We Pay Players', park Lambos in front of the recruiting facility. But you can't verify an IG account or send a text?"

The NCAA is pretty silly.

And one of the violations is writing a $100 check to a charity golf tournament that a recruit's dad organized. The biggest violation is Harbaugh not complying with a request.

Yeah, basically pissed that he told them to screw off when they asked to look at his cell phone.

Right, he didn't know about that espionage his assistant was carrying out, either.🙄

And the NCAA has handed down a "punishment" for Harbaugh in the form of a 4-year show cause lol

I hardly think he'll be leaving his $16 million/year job with the Chargers to go back to college in the next 4 years.

it's 1 of 2 things and both would be bad....either 1) he's lying about knowing or 2) he was so incompetent at his job that this happened without his knowledge...and since he was supposed to be all this and that I think I lose more respect for him if he didn't know

Harbaugh is showing what a true dirtbag he is with the laughing and smirking when asked to own up and take some responsibility regarding the program where he was HC. A wealthy dirtbag but still a dirtbag.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh deflected a question Thursday about the NCAA's most recent sanctions levied against him, which included a four-year show-cause order and in effect banned him from college athletics until August 2028.

"I'm stopping the engagement there with commenting," Harbaugh said. "But my only hope is that one day college athletics will be about what's best for young men and young women who participate in it. That's really all I've got to say about it."

I doubt Harbaugh himself orchestrated the spying/videoing opponents' games. As the head coach, there's just too much going on for him to be involved in the minutiae of that type of action. But there's no way a rogue staffer did this on his own. I saw yesterday that he was making $55,000/year. That kind of salary doesn't enable someone to buy the seats he was buying. This had to be an institutional choice to incorporate spying into the weekly gameplan. Harbaugh either knew about it or chose to not know about it. Either way, he's responsible.

I vote "chose not to know".

Did not something similar happen to Pete Carroll? The college he coached at was hit with penalties while Carroll was in the NFL.

On another subject: there were rumors that we were doing what Michigan did when we beat Tennessee and Clemson in 2022.
