We went to ETSU last week and had a great time. When we got to Erwin we turned off of I-26 and took the old road through Erwin. I had forgotten how pretty the town of Erwin is and really enjoyed seeing it once again. We continued on the old road to JC. I looked for the State Park that you told me about but couldn't easily spot it from the road and I didn't save your directions. But I don't blame for you for the fact you really enjoy living in Erwin. Again, it has been years since I last drove through Erwin and had forgotten Erwin was a pretty and polished little town.

Thanks Freddie!!! When in town, you have to turn up Rock Creek Rd. to get to Rock Creek State Park...

Did you stop in Flag Pond at the State Welcome Center? That would have been a great place to pick up maps of all the parks in the area...

Did you stop at Pal's? Most folks in Greenville/Spartanburg/Asheville like to come over and have a run thru Pal's...

It's a cozy little mountain town between Johnson City & Asheville....what more do I need? I can be in Johnson City in 20 mins, Asheville is 40 mins and Knoxville/Greenville/Spartanburg within 2 hours....no need to leave....

It is however getting harder for people to move into Erwin...There is just simply no land to build as the Cherokee National Forest takes up most of the land in the county...so when something now comes vacant, it is usually under contract with a realtor within a couple of days at Gi-normous prices....

No, I didn't stop at the Visitor's Center but next time I will. And I will remember to turn at Rock Creek Rd., I definitely want to show my wife that park. We will be going back very soon as we plan to attend several football games at ETSU. We have eaten at Pal's before and love their food, however, we didn't eat their this time but again we love Pal's.

I don't know if you ever had a chance or ever wanted to for that matter to visit the Culp Center on the campus of ETSU. But, man that place is beautiful and has some of the most magnificent views of the campus. I can't wait to see it in the fall and spring. I wish I had the opportunity to visit it after a pretty blanket of snow and see the whole campus painted in a beautiful white cover of winter wonderland snow glistening off of tree tops and the surrounding landscape. There is a glass front of the building that stretches' from floor to ceiling for three floors that reveal a breathtaking view of parts of the campus.

Oh sure I've been in the Culp Center many times...my office is just down from ETSU...I sometimes cut through campus on my way home...it is really nice when it snows, the mountains as the backdrop makes ETSU just one beautiful campus...

Did you go to the new bookstore across West Market St., Alumni Hall? Great bookstore and gift shop...

No, I did not but had planned to visit Alumni but ran out of time. As I said earlier I am planning to return to campus soon and will certainly check out the bookstore as well as the state park we have been wanting to visit. And thank you for all the information you have provided us.

My wife and I camped near there about 5-6 years ago. Think it was a campground outside of Jonesborough maybe. Beautiful country. We rode through Erwin one evening and there was a little league baseball game being played and we both remarked that Erwin made us think of Mayberry. Don't think Sherriff Taylor would have been on board with hanging an elephant though :). But anyway, we now have a place in Sylva, NC, which is a little bigger than Erwin I think but it also has those small town, down home vibes. We plan to move there next year and leave this heat behind.

Hey Import, I lived in Waynesville for about 16 years and worked in Sylva many of those years, we still have a little place a few miles past the parkway up on Balsam up there in the Jackson Co side. Still take the jet skis over to Bear Lake. You will enjoy that area for sure. Lots of things to do.
