And Sean Clifford, ROSE BOWL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME!

- Won his SECOND MAJOR bowl game! Only the third PSU QB to accomplish that feat.

- Coach James Franklin is now 3-1 in MAJOR BOWL GAMES (having won the Fiesta, Cotton and Rose).

Suck it haters!

Definitely a good feeling to exceed expectation. Let's do it again next year.

This is a top five season of the last 30 years. The amount of people who wanted to throw in the towel on the season after Michigan is insane. Fans are, by and large, stupid.

Agree with your comment about the post Michigan game response. You could see the very next week against Minnesota that this team had learned from the Michigan game and responded well. Michigan thumped us. No question about it. But this young team learned and changed and grew from the experience. And was a really good team by the end of the year and showed that last night.

It's been said that a good coach has his team playing its best at season's end. A hallmark of Joe Paterno's teams. James Franklin's teams get better as the year goes on.

Hmm I heard it said once you are what your record says you are.
James Franklin has a bowl record of 5-5 in his career and a record of 3-4 while at Penn State. Facts seems to discount your premise of his teams get better. Nice guy but not elite at anything. And no .. I’m not looking for someone else

That's an interesting concept  .
Since CJF took over at PSU, Penn State's record in September and October is 49-17 (74% wins).
September is 30-5 (86% wins - mostly against the Villanovas and Ball States) October is 19-12 (61% wins). The record from November on is 29-19 (60% wins)
And that despite the overwhelming majority of the games with OSU and Michigan (13 of the 18 matchups) coming in September and October.
Collectively, over his entire time at PSU, Penn State's teams have, most certainly, not gotten "stronger as the season goes along".

FWIW: Paterno's record after joining the Big Ten wasn't quite as good as Franklin in September/October (won 72%), of course, PSU actually played some legitimate out of conference games back then (Alabama, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Miami, USC, etc) - but much better later in season, from November on (67%)

Now that coach Franklin is 3-1 in major bowl games, I assume a raise is due him and the staff.
There are at least a dozen HCs paid higher going into 23, so there is a chance. I'm not worried because I checked my bank accounts and I've not been billed for any PSU coaching salaries to date.

Pretty easy to figure out......Sept and Oct would include 3 out of conference games. Usually wins.

Just off the top of my head:
2016, 2-2 start. Went on to win nine in a row if I recall correctly.
Covid year won last four games of the season.
This year, after loss to Ohio State, won all their remaining games.
