Wake got left out bc they always use conference record/finish as a backstop. They were 15-15 and finished tied for 8th in the ACC. We would have been in if the staff had tried.

Why do we have to get swept?
answer is it’s probably a wash. But going 2-1 or 3-0 to Houston moves out rpi up 10 spots
If we get swept by #112 Houston, no. But odds of us not taking at least two are pretty low. Point is, MSM is a freaking RPI killer even when you sweep.
If you trade msm with Houston and kept results the same. Our rpi is probably 19-20 ish and not 25.
The schedule was bad. People got tired of me saying it. But with smart scheduling we are 5-10 points higher rpi which could have made all the difference
All we had to do was win 3 of the 6 bad home losses and we’re 10th. Win 2 of them and we were 15 or 16.

If that was the case, why didn’t ULL from the Sun Belt get to host? They were champions of an objectively stronger conference than the PAC 12. None of it makes sense. Arizona this year is easily the most undeserving host site in college baseball history.
Take out MSM, Alcorn State, and North Alabama, and insert schools along the lines of Northwestern State and Arkansas State, and that gets us into the teens.
You don't have to schedule good teams, you just can't schedule teams in the 275-300 range, and definitely not 5 games against them. Those tank your RPI even when you win.
Evidently it did matter, because Duke didn’t host with a Top 16 RPI. And they were more deserving than NCSU by most accounts.
Arizona played the toughest non conference schedule in the country. Won both regular season and tourney championship. Won 20 regular season conference games. They also won 18 quad 1-2 games.
I was shocked too. But they are far from the most undeserved host ever.
Nc state was a lock by everyone, duke never was. Clear nc state resume was clearly better than dukes by “most accounts” and the final account

Well, there was that year we hosted as a 3 seed back in the 80s. But yeah, since the NCAA went to performance based hosting in 2000, this is the biggest WTF.

I know. I just have bad memories of those cocky Cal Fullerton bastards kicking sand in our faces almost 40 years ago. Actually, looking it up we were the 2 seed and they were the 3. But they beat us twice and #1 A&M to win it.
So what? They totally sucked against it….went 13-10. And their conference blows…..which means 65% of their overall schedule blows.
In a terrible league that has a lower conference RPI than the damn Sun Belt. So who cares?
That’s a fancy way of saying they won 15 Quad 2 games. Nobody gives a flying 17 about Quad 2 wins.
Either way, they didn’t give 3 host sites to Raleigh-Durham, as everybody knew they wouldn’t. So the geography certainly mattered.
Evidently they decided they cared about Arizona winning the PAC tourney, but but not Duke winning the ACC tourney. Yet another puzzling decision. Shít show committee, and not just because we got hosed, because about 5-6 other teams did too.
here’s how easy it is to schedule a tough OOC schedule. Their #1 OOC schedule weekends were vs Northeastern, at San Diego, a tournament vs Bama, TCU & Dallas Baptist and vs LA Tech. And they lost 5 of those games.
Yeah. The Pac12 is 6th in the RPI, and just as close to #8 as #5.
I think they’re the lowest RPI to ever host (at least since we went to seeding all 16). They basically got an auto bid.
I think ECU was more egregious than Arizona. If you’re in the 13th best league you better dominate it to host. They did not at all, at least the last few weeks.
